Rush has died

Like Trump, he really knew how to tap into some pretty ugly parts of the Republican psyche.

He was good at it, talented even. I suppose you can praise him for that, and you can admire his ability to cultivate followers and financial success through it.

Would you praise your own kids for saying these things? What if they made a lot of money doing it?

Does money make it okay?

This. He truly loved this country.

I am a better American citizen because of him. I am going out of my way to teach my children about our country because of him. He will influence many of us for years to come.

What kinds of things will you teach your children thanks to Rush?

How damn lucky they are to be Americans. That they owe the generations before them that gave everything for them to be free. That America is built on principles and values that never before been used in forming the basis of a government, and those principles are what make us exceptional. And that we are always only one generation away from losing it all.

Very well said. RIP Rush. I won’t cry for you because that’s not what you want. You want us to fight. We will fight

This.

We can honor him by winning “in the arena of ideals”, as he coined the term. He wouldn’t want people crying over his passing. He would want them inspired by his message, and striving for excellence in what they do. Because that’s at the essence of what made this country great.

Well said. Thank you.

Is it “well said”? How? If you really believed, as a party, that your trash ideals would win in any arena, you wouldn’t have made cheating your stock in trade. You wouldn’t have taken away the right to vote for felons, a right that Florida voters voted to restore. You wouldn’t be obsessed with gerrymandering. You wouldn’t be obsessed with shutting down as much voting as possible.

Face it: in any honest contest, your ideals lose because they’re cruel and usually pretty stupid. You guys liked Rush because he said your disgusting bigoted opinions out loud and made you feel strong.

On Rush’s ideas and politics: read this. Come on people.

Rush on his facebook page mentions this particular caller talking about him. As scary as Rush was, people like this I think scare me even more. At least Rush knew he was spewing hate.

"Hey, I just wanted to tell you about my dad and what my dad used to say about people. He said people were born with two things that were theirs. They have their name and they have their integrity, and once one went away, the other shortly followed, and that they were awfully hard to get back. I think my dad would have seen you as the type of person he was referring to in those statements. You just have so much integrity, and you’re such a good person, and I just feel very blessed every day that I get to listen to you and have you be a part of my life."

He was the most successful radio show host in American history. If he sat on your side of the aisle, you would have adored him. Let’s be honest.

Well duh. If he were on the other side of the aisle he wouldn’t have been spewing vile against marginalized groups. He wouldn’t have been so racist and misogynist.

You are so wrong. All that bombast and bile is a part of the culture of Republicans. If liberals/Dems were drawn to that, we'd have our own equivalent, but we don't. We have the talent, but it's not our thing. Our thing is political humor and satire. See Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Trevor Noah, VEEP, etc. We also do overly earnest political drama, like The West Wing and Madame Secretary.

You rage, we laugh. It's just a cultural difference between the right and the left.

Oh, that is rich. You did indeed make me laugh though!

Care to defend his words posted in this thread, PP? Any way to justify or excuse them, or is that something you just look away from?

Whoooosh...

I guess that means you avoid thinking about them.

Fair enough.

They don't avoid thinking about the things he said. They love the things he said. He said all of the vile things they believe out loud.

Yes, you’ve been wetting your pants in anticipation.

So you think, Trump is contributing to the thread?

Can’t wait until he’s in the ground so I can go there and squat down on his grave and christen it. I’m guessing I’ll have to wait in a line tho.

I listened to Rush Limbaugh radio a lot last year because I have an ongoing curiosity about and desire to understand why over 70 million Americans would vote for Trump even after observing what a disgusting and damaging person he was. Listening to RL's show made it very clear. The lies and brainwashing of his listeners explains it all. It's been going on for many years and there are other radio personalities who parroted him and participated in the constant lying and brainwashing of their vulnerable listeners. And it will continue.

Sure, if I were a racist, misogynistic, homophobic piece of shit, I would have adored him. But I’m not, so I don’t.

Rush smoked cigars his whole life. Touted tobacco.

Loved it.

Died of lung cancer.

Just imagine if he had quit smoking.

"The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

Republicans are obsessed with telling us not to believe any of the horrible things that various Republicans have said. I don’t know if it’s just some disbelief that their political heroes are godawful, or if it’s more of their insane belief that we’re too stupid to be trusted, but it doesn’t say anything good about them.

Not a one of these “conservatives” (aka anti-democratic reactionaries) has tried to refute a single one of the god awful quotes from the sewer’s own mouth because they know he’s just that awful and that’s why they love him.

He said what they think but were afraid to speak aloud.

100%
I've been in a room with his "ditto heads" or whatever they called themselves as they clung to his every word, saw them literally raise their hands and cheer at his racist, misogynistic crap. His was able to spew out the kind of things his followers knew they could no longer get away with saying in society and they ate it up. I was honestly shocked when I opened this thread originally and saw people saying they'd teach their children about this man. What!?
Anonymous
Oh, I'll teach my children about this man -- teach them to recognize him, and those like him.

There have always been men like him.
