Rush has died

I am not convinced he even personally believed half the stuff he said. He said those things primarily to gain and keep an audience. He is greatly responsible for the angry, hateful “us vs. them” mentality that defines the modern American approach to politics. He spent his entire career actively and deliberately making the country a worse place, all to line his own pockets and boost his ego.

He made a lot of money, though.

Apparently for a lot of people on this thread, you can be a sh&t human being, but if you make a ton of money doing it, that's worth looking up to.

Well that makes it even worse doesn’t it.

DP

But, you see, he was popular. So popular!
He was successful at being a dick.
He made lots of money.

You must just be jealous. You wish you were a dick, too.

I am the PP, and exactly, that is what I was getting at, actually.

So far they haven’t offered that up as an excuse, but they have claimed he was a good American (no proof offered for that outlandish claim).

"his existence has been a net negative for humanity."

He was praised in this thread for having "DOMINATED the medium of radio for over a THIRD of the time it’s existed," and for going out "on top" as "The King of Talk Radio," and being "the most successful radio show host in American history." Being that successful in talk radio comes with a lot of money, and the need for tax breaks.

He was also lauded in this thread for a donation of $100,000, which was just 0.02% of his net worth. Not 2%, but two hundredths of a percent. When I was making $40,000 annually, that would have been $8. Nobody would laud me for that sacrifice, but they would him -- solely because he made a lot of money for the shock value of the ugly parts out loud. And the tax break on $100,000 provides a lot of personal financial incentive that will never come with a $8 donation.

That's worth looking up to, apparently.

I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse.

“Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin."

"Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear."

Rush can best be described as embodying this quote:

"No nobody ever went broke from underestimating the intelligence of the American people"

Didn't he benefit from the Fairness Doctrine being repealed in the Reagan years?

"The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

Republicans are obsessed with telling us not to believe any of the horrible things that various Republicans have said. I don’t know if it’s just some disbelief that their political heroes are godawful, or if it’s more of their insane belief that we’re too stupid to be trusted, but it doesn’t say anything good about them.

Not a one of these “conservatives” (aka anti-democratic reactionaries) has tried to refute a single one of the god awful quotes from the sewer’s own mouth because they know he’s just that awful and that’s why they love him.

He said what they think but were afraid to speak aloud.

And as why they love him. He said the quiet part out loud. And the quiet part is nasty filth that makes me feel I need to take a shower. He didn’t love my America, that for d*mn sure.

Agree with you both. It’s worse if he devised and chose those words to tear our country apart.

Malicious intent.

Of course he didn't. He was laughing all the way to the bank at the stupid losers who believed everything he said and hung on his every word. These people on there fawning over him and how much he loved this country... you look so foolish. He loved the MONEY and attention and could not have cared less about you. Just like Trump. You are embarrassing yourselves.
