As a Catholic, on the first day of Lent, I say RIP.

It's a tough pill to swallow.
What is the meaning of dying on the first day of Lent?

It is a season of reflection, prayer, repentence in anticipation of the celebration of the crucifixion and the resurrection.

I know what Lent is, I was wondering why the OP commented on him dying on the first day of Lent and seemed to imply that it had meaning.

This. If you can’t say something nice (or even neutral) then don’t say something that gets you blocked.

He certainly left his mark on the political landscape and his legacy clearly imprinted on today’s GOP. Limbaugh created the space for Trumpism.

Rush was one of the top celebrity donors. He gave millions annually. (At one time he was #4 behind Oprah, Brangelina, etc.)

But a quick google search of media coverage about his death reminds you of his many controversial remarks and actions. (HuffPost has a thorough rundown.)

Yes, he succeeded in perfecting the mechanism for conservative talk radio that shaped hearts and minds. After the OKC bombing, then President Clinton cautioned America about the rising power of the medium, and former President Trump gave Rush an award for the powerful role his broadcast played in shaping conservative politics and winning elections.

And, very few people who didn't follow Rush have no clue about how much he donated to charity.
I am betting a lot of people didn't know that Elton John played at his wedding.
He was so much more than what people heard about him from the media.

Correction: Few people have ANY clue.

I’ve heard enough of his own words to draw my own conclusions.
