As a Catholic, on the first day of Lent, I say RIP.

It's a tough pill to swallow.
What is the meaning of dying on the first day of Lent?

It is a season of reflection, prayer, repentence in anticipation of the celebration of the crucifixion and the resurrection.
I know what Lent is, I was wondering why the OP commented on him dying on the first day of Lent and seemed to imply that it had meaning.

OP here. Because I am trying to be a good Catholic/Christian by not saying anything negative about him. Especially during this holy season.

Another +1. Or "ditto," if you like.

Love him or hate him, he will go down in history as one of the most influential personalities of this era.

He was a master at messaging and manipulation. He should be a model for other influencers.

But a quick google search of media coverage about his death reminds you of his many controversial remarks and actions. (HuffPost has a thorough rundown.)

And, very few people who didn't follow Rush have no clue about how much he donated to charity.
I am betting a lot of people didn't know that Elton John played at his wedding.
He was so much more than what people heard about him from the media.

Correction: Few people have ANY clue.

I’ve heard enough of his own words to draw my own conclusions.

THIS. The man was on the radio for three hours a day for over 20 years. I am perfectly qualified and competent to form an opinion of him based on the things he said on his radio show whether or not he gave money to charity.

This. If you can’t say something nice (or even neutral) then don’t say something that gets you blocked.

Why say anything at all? Why even open the thread?

I’d tell you. But then Jeff would block me.

I am so over people with huge media platforms using those platforms to complain about the media cancelling them. Rush reached tens of millions of people a day and earned a fortune doing so. He wasn’t a victim of the media. He WAS the media.

Yet another +1.

I found that HuffPo's story about his death reflected my views pretty accurately.

Well I, for one, loved his show and will forever appreciate the conservative values that he espoused and taught. The country is a better place because of him. He will be missed.

You can post what you like in a couple of days. Jeff said as much in website feedback.

This. He truly loved this country.

I am a better American citizen because of him. I am going out of my way to teach my children about our country because of him. He will influence many of us for years to come.

What kinds of things will you teach your children thanks to Rush?

I’ve been a listener since the early 90’s. He was a giant talent, and loved this country. He articulated the ideals and beliefs that millions of people held, and let them know they were not alone. He almost singlehandedly created the talk radio genre and was the role model for hundreds of conservative and libertarian voices that found their way to the airwaves since.

There will never be another Limbaugh. But his legacy will live on in the people he reached daily, the people he helped through his charity, and those voices that were inspired by him who give voice to the rest of us.

Godspeed, Rush.
