Yes, "reasonable accommodations" means the kid who doesn't want to share the locker room with the trans kid can go find another place to change. Trans kid gets to stay according to current FCPS policy. |
What are you babbling about now? DP |
Wtaf. This is most definitely an issue I care about. Why can't the schools simply provide a gender-neutral bathroom/locker room for those who would prefer that? There is absolutely no need for a biological male to be in the spaces of biological girls. And people like you sound utterly nutty. DP |

Sorry, no. The will of the few does not supersede the will of the majority. |
Apparently, it does in Fairfax County Public Schools. Go read Ryan McElveen's tweet. |
Correct. Much easier to accommodate the few than the many. Much like the policy of removing the kids who are behaving from a classroom when one kid is acting up. |
According to Michelle Reid, the majority doesn't always dictate, right? |
I wouldn't believe this if I hadn't already heard about it from friends, their daughter's entire class had to evacuate their classroom over and over due to one boy because the school wouldn't remove him. Funny thing in hindsight, I'm sure that they continued to proudly vote for the school board members who allowed this to happen despite complaining non stop. |
It isn’t the school board that keeps this going. It is lawsuits. In the 1990s/2000s it was a Dateline and 60 minutes regular topic to discuss how horrible it was that staff members were physically removing SPED children from the classroom. This outrage in turn sparked lawsuits which in turn brought about a bunch of new policies that no child could be touched even if they are violent towards other kids and the “Evacuation” of the other children procedure. It is definitely time to swing the pendulum the other way, but this is a LAW/political issue, not school board. |
I agree that they should just provide a gender neutral bathroom for changing, but assure you I am not nutty. Read the book and learn. I didn’t write Careless People, but I can say that your perspective of the intersection of politics and technology will change when you read it. |
DP. I just did. Interesting replies to his postings on this topic. And he has a daughter, right? |
excuse me? The will of the few? What makes you think that most parents agree with the Trump administration for doing this? |
DP. Common sense. |
The number of transgender people is small, as such if accommodations are needed, they should be the one(s) making them. Trans student(s) should use the alternate facility. |
