For all those who defended this because "little kids don't need to know about homosexuality" -- we told you this was coming.

You guys are illiterate?

"Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) last month proposed to the board a rule that would only allow discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in fourth through 12th grade if it is in line with state curriculum or in a health class a student can choose not to participate in."

That's how the civilized world does education. Teaching is aligned with the curriculum, not with partisan propaganda.

Are you seriously that gullible? Let me spell it out for you. They are going to change the curriculum to ensure this doesn’t align with it. “If it aligns with the state curriculum” is subjective and vague. Make it confusing so that teachers have no idea if it’s aligned or not. Plenty of teachers are removing classic literature from their content and libraries because of this. It’s easier to just not go there, hence the moniker Don’t Say Gay.

Yup.
My sister lives in Florida. Her 3rd grader got assigned a report on a specific woman during Womens History Month. My sister emailed the teacher a clarification question about the person, and the teacher responded with "She can just do any woman she wants" It was so clear the teacher didn't want to actually engage with a parent, and just basically let the parents do anything at this point. The exodus from the teaching profession in Florida is going to be enormous this year.

Why are Republicans so worried about who is having sex with who so long as they are consenting adults.
They shouldn't be more worried about the 12-year-old girls. They're trying to marry off to 30 and 40-year-old men.... And 10-year-olds they're forcing to give birth

I can tell you I wouldn't be accepting anyone that graduates from a Florida school either elementary high school college. What have you due to their lack of fundamental knowledge and about 10 years?. That's what happens when you dumb down education and don't allow critical thinking skills to develop... Your degree isn't going to be worth much coming out of Florida. I can guarantee you that

Well, when your teachers and administrators start to encourage transition behind our backs and tell us that we, as parents, don’t matter, we tend to push back.

By “encourage” what you mean is “not condemn” a student who is trans. We know what you really want is to tell kids who probably already feel out of place that they are freaks and need to suppress their feelings.

We want them guided back to sanity by reasonable adults, not activists.

You want to push them to the brink of suicide is what you want.

the only thing a teacher does is call the child by their chosen name and use their pronouns. You are making up scenarios in your head to feed your narrative. If you want that much control over your children and prevent them from being exposed to others dissimilar to them, you should homeschool. Otherwise let the professionals do their job and shut up. Your ignorance is showing.

DP. You aren't paying attention. Or else you're unwilling to discuss in good faith. Not sure which.

NP. What do you see actually happening then? I have a kid in the Florida schools and I see only this as well. She sees nothing other than this, ever. We talk about these issues at home, so I'm clear about what's happening in her school.

I call BS on this. I have 3 hetero kids in various stages of school and they have not had any conversations with any teacher convincing them to transition or about being transgender or transitioning. Next you'll tell me all about the critical race theory classes your kids are in. I am paying very close attention to my children and the lies you and your people are filling the media with saying schools are doing this. Again, if you are afraid of public school because of the scarey gay and trans kids, homeschool your kids. If you are in Florida, why are you on a DC board?

I think the PP was saying they only see teachers calling kids by their chosen pronouns and not anything else. They are saying they don't see anything concerning in their kids schools.

I appreciate you clarifying, Thank you.

Specific examples of harm to kids as a result of teaching in schools. Still waiting, pages later, nobody has anything but vague replies, smoke, mirrors and distraction.

Is desantis a closeted gay man or something? He seems obsessively focused on this non issue.

It’s hardly a non-issue. Fully support this and hope other states follow suit. There is simply no reason to be discussing/ promoting things like this in schools.

ITA. Our kids need to be educated in mathematics, history, science, technology, and language.
It is ridiculous to spend precious time discussing gender and sexuality.

And, note that discussion on gender and sexual identity are not banned in grades 4-12....

"would only allow discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in fourth through 12th grade if it is in line with state curriculum or in a health class a student can choose not to participate in." (from the link above)

And, one more thing.....

There is no such thing as "don't say gay" bill. In Florida, or anywhere else.

It's EXACTLY what it means. And you know it.

Teachers will be afraid, and stop any discussion. I can't wait until 10th graders start bringing it up and school. You know RW kids will tell their teachers, who will try to get the teachers fired.

Why should anything be off limits to talk about in school? are we not the home of the FREE and the BRAVE? I guess not.

Because some things- like sexual morals - should be taught at home, within the confines of individual family religious and other beliefs. I don’t want me kids taught about transgenderism. If you want your five year old “educated” on this subject, go right ahead.

The post is about 10th graders, not 5 year olds. That seems like a reasonable she to understand transgenderism at some level. What age would be appropriate in your opinion? I don't think I want my teenager to be an ignorant person.

Please tell us all what there is to "understand" about transgenderism. Other than... well....

First tell us what you "understand" about transgenderism and then we'll tell you what you're missing.

Do you spend any time listening to Chloe Cole and others who have been maimed permanently as teens?

How many trans people do you know in real life? How many have you talked to in real life? Have they all had surgery? Have the ones who had surgery regretted it?

Surveys of trans people have confirmed the majority feel better after transitioning.

Huh? I asked for examples from public schools. None of these are examples of public school education harming children requiring this law through 12th grade. I'm still waiting.

Yet another example that nobody has anything serious as an example of harm to children from public school teaching necessitating a law. Still waiting for examples on this, of which the PP still didn't provide any.

Yes, sorry, I'm that PP and this is what I meant. There is nothing nefarious happening in any way in any class by any teacher, and to think otherwise is flat out ridiculous.

No teacher is permanently maiming a child. What the hell are you people talking about?.
No doctor does sexual reassignment surgery after meeting someone for 10 minutes. A very long drawn out process....
I've known women who have regretted getting breast implants, so should we also banned those?..
Men have regretted getting vasectomies. I guess those are banned now as well

Just because some people regret a decision they make doesn't mean it should be illegal for every person in this country

I fully realize that this PP made the erroneous assumptions here, and backtracked, but addressing the bolded beyond the thousands of times it's asked on this board (used to live in DC, found it in a search, etc.):
1. Because the thread is about Florida. I guess it begs the question about why Florida is discussed at all or with such frequency on this forum?
2. The thread is specifically about a Florida statute harming Florida students.
3. The people who really should be responding to this thread are Florida residents with kids in the schools.
4. Because the institigator of these harms is going to be running for president. We here in Florida are trying to warn anyone who will listen that this guy is evil.
