*meant gay parents or mention having two parents who are the same gender?

For all those who defended this because "little kids don't need to know about homosexuality" -- we told you this was coming.

Is desantis a closeted gay man or something? He seems obsessively focused on this non issue.

It’s hardly a non-issue. Fully support this and hope other states follow suit. There is simply no reason to be discussing/ promoting things like this in schools.

Huh? You never took sex ed? I fully support public school inclusion of sex ed including discussion of the fact that sometimes people have different orientation. My elementary school kid already knows that sometimes guys marry guys and girls marry girls, what are you so afraid of?

What are you afraid of?

Tell me. So in English class, are kids allowed at all to read a book about two gay people in love under this law? It's ok to read a book that discusses relationship difficulties if the characters are straight, but not if they have a different sexual orientation?

Still waiting for the answer on this one.

Of course it was never about the kids. Any time a conservative says something is "for the children" they're lying. 100% of the time. The truth is, that's just the easy entryway. They also ban gender transition "for the children" but what they really want is to completely ban it for all humans in the US. No doubt they want to make being gay and trans illegal again.

Screw you. The reason to discuss this is because sexual orientation is not a “choice” but a biological attribute. Too many gay people like me have committed suicide before adulthood because society told them that being gay wasn’t an option.

+1 and the bill supporters that were posting here are suddenly quiet because they don't want to admit they are homophobic.

Woke goes to Florida to die at the hands of Hate.

DeSantis is a hatemongerer.

As I understand it, this is not an issue at all. The issue is the promotion/ teaching of this kind of thing in health-type classes.

I also support the Governor on this one, BTW.

ITA. Our kids need to be educated in mathematics, history, science, technology, and language.
It is ridiculous to spend precious time discussing gender and sexuality.

And, note that discussion on gender and sexual identity are not banned in grades 4-12....

"would only allow discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in fourth through 12th grade if it is in line with state curriculum or in a health class a student can choose not to participate in." (from the link above)

And, one more thing.....

There is no such thing as "don't say gay" bill. In Florida, or anywhere else.

Where is it already being discussed in ways that are inappropriate? What examples are there of how I need to clutch my pearls and shield my children's eyes and ears? Or is this all just smoke to distract from the actual fire which is the statistical data on the biggest true risk to children's well being in the USA?

So, is this disallowed in sex ed classes in Florida? Have you done the research or are you just bit*hing?

Is there any room in this country for people who don't think gender identity and sexuality need to be discussed at length in school but also don't think discussions should be banned through legislation? Or are we just SOL?

The law is vague. What is allowed vs. not? I read the law. It's vague. We already know how this has gone into ridiculous overstepping for book banning.

Reminds me of how abortion law with "exceptions for the health/life of the mother" still leads women to have their lives at risk because the interpretation of the law is enormously gray (see increased risk to women's health that was immediately apparent in peer reviewed published research at hospitals in TX)

So what are state standards?

Also, what are the horrific examples that have occurred that require this enormous waste of legislative time when kids are actually dying of (checks notes)... guns?

Republicans are just obsessed with private parts- it’s disgusting and obscene. Change my mind.

Me thinks that he doth protest much too much. I have often thought the same about him. He is an evil man. Read what the prisoner in Guantanamo said about DeSantis laughing watching torture.

Still waiting for examples. I have two kids in elementary school in DC where everyone and everything is extra "woke" so please tell me what my concerns should be based on actual examples of things that have happened? Convince me. Bring it on.

It's EXACTLY what it means. And you know it.

Teachers will be afraid, and stop any discussion. I can't wait until 10th graders start bringing it up and school. You know RW kids will tell their teachers, who will try to get the teachers fired.

Why should anything be off limits to talk about in school? are we not the home of the FREE and the BRAVE? I guess not.
