RMIB has the same number of admittances to the same kinds of colleges as Whitman. There's an annual chart that someone always posts in the college forum.
So the usual - 1 or 2 to Harvard, 1 to MIT etc etc. They aren't changing the college's own criteria for selection or the limits on how many they will accept from any given HS. You all should know this already. |
I'm guessing that the chart is for Richard Montgomery HS, not for the RM IB magnet program. From reading DCUM, you'd think the only RM students who go to college are the students in the RM IB magnet program. |
I'm an RMIB parent, I wouldn't necessarily choose RMIB over BCC if the commute is awful. However, it really depends on the kid. We decided to not have DC apply to MS magnet because the commute was going to be horrible, but in hindsight, I think DC would've been better off at a MS magnet. If your kid is really exceptionally high achieving, the RMS 9th and 10th grade courses will be more challenging than the "honors" 9th/10th courses anywhere else. But, then again, not having the advanced 9th and 10th grade courses might be better off from an extra curricular and time saving perspective. I think the decision really depends on the kid. Maybe you could live in BCC cluster, apply to RMIB, and if the student gets accepted, go there for 9th and see what it's like. If they don't like it, they can always go back to BCC and join IB in 11th grade. |
| So is RMIB envy the new thing around here? |
Envy for what? My kid is doing the IB Diploma Programme in our home school (not BCC or RM). |
It's the new thing evidently. |
W parents, including BCC, hate on anything that is not a W school, calling it ganglandia or some such. That is not new. |
BCC isn't a W school. |
It's much better!
|
Meanwhile, kids at the W's are chasing each other with knives or passing out in the bathroom, but it's a W so they're good kids. |
Might as well be for the wealth and number of white kids, which higher in BCC than WJ. |
WJ is 49.8% white, BCC is 48.7% white |
2022 to 2023? Here's 2021 to 2022: WJ 50.3% white https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/04424.pdf BCC 53.5% white https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/04406.pdf |
Interesting changes. Yes, the 2022-23 numbers are included in the CIP chapters: https://gis.mcpsmd.org/cipmasterpdfs/CIP24_Chapter4BCC.pdf https://gis.mcpsmd.org/cipmasterpdfs/CIP24_Chapter4Johnson.pdf |
