RMIB vs BCC IB

That said, RM and the MS JW has the MYP program that goes to 10th grade, and ALL JW/RM students are automatically enrolled in the MYP. There is an MYP project that they have to complete by 10th grade. Again, that's if your kid doesn't get into RMIB in 9th grade.

And yes, RMIB has the highest diploma rate, I think in the country, maybe even globally.

No. Not globally. Most of Europe does to much better.

RMIB diploma rate was 98% in 2022. You mean most of Europe has a 99 to 100% diploma rate?

Really? It was down to 72% at RMIB very recently.

"98% of the RMIB Class of 2022 Earned the IB Diploma!"

Some of this may be due to covid and virtual learning. I think some of the IB diploma requirements were lowered due to covid. But I don't think RMIB diploma rate has ever been below 90% in the past few years, especially if you only look at the magnet cohort and not those who join at 11th grade. But even with that cohort, thee diploma rate is higher than 85%, I believe.

Do you believe everything you read on the internet?

That is some random private website run by a company with clear profit motives.

That list shows the average points, not the diploma rate. yes, they have high average points, but you don't need those high points to get the diploma. I'm sure those schools all have high diploma rates, too. But the list doesn't indicate the diploma rate.

Also, many of those schools are private and have much smaller class sizes than RMIB.

+1 that site is for private independent schools. It does not include public schools. This is an example of someone googling and pasting the link without fully reading what the site is about.

"About IB Private Schools "

As selective as the RMIB program may be, the programs in Europe (the few I know well) are more so. They admit fewer students after the first two years of high school. We’re not comparing apples to apples here.

If we'd like to consider having our child do the IB program, is it better to rent /buy in the BCC school zone so we don't have to worry about getting into the RMIB program or is the RMIB program better than BCC's? I did the IB diploma so I know the curriculum will be the same at either school, so I'm asking more about the quality of the teachers or student dynamics. Does one school have better Diploma outcomes than the other?

RMIB is among the top programs in the county, but getting in is a crap shoot. There just aren't that many seats and there are so many qualified kids that many who deserve this end up being denied. BCC's IB is a safe bet. I'm sure it's plenty challenging.

It’s not really a crap shoot. Kids who are exceptional academically all-around will get in.

And yet, as an MCPS public high school, the IB Diploma rate was 98%.

I’m no MCPS cheerleader, because MCPS does a lot of crazy things. But that’s pretty good. Especially considering it’s not a private school limited to wealthy families.

They are private schools that offer the IB program. RMIB is not private so not included and also much much bigger.

RMIB takes 100 students from a pool of 8000. Typically only 800 apply, but half of those kids have perfect stats and are at the top of their class.
