RMIB vs BCC IB

Anonymous
Relocating to MD. If we'd like to consider having our child do the IB program, is it better to rent /buy in the BCC school zone so we don't have to worry about getting into the RMIB program or is the RMIB program better than BCC's? I did the IB diploma so I know the curriculum will be the same at either school, so I'm asking more about the quality of the teachers or student dynamics. Does one school have better Diploma outcomes than the other?

RMIB has better diploma outcome.

RM is supposedly the best when it comes to teaching quality and outcome when it comes to IB in MCPS.

Any RM student can join the IB program in 11th grade. The test in is only for 9th grade, whether in or out of the cluster.

That said, RM and the MS JW has the MYP program that goes to 10th grade, and ALL JW/RM students are automatically enrolled in the MYP. There is an MYP project that they have to complete by 10th grade. Again, that's if your kid doesn't get into RMIB in 9th grade.

And yes, RMIB has the highest diploma rate, I think in the country, maybe even globally.

No. Not globally. Most of Europe does to much better.

RMIB diploma rate was 98% in 2022. You mean most of Europe has a 99 to 100% diploma rate?

Really? Can you post a source, or are you just making things up?

I have a kid at the RMIB program and historically, the pass rate is quite high. Usually above 95%. Are you saying that 'most of Europe' has a pass rate that is higher? That seems incredibly unlikely.

The BCC diploma rate is very high too — I think around 90-95% (it’s been posted in other threads)— so I wouldn’t worry about choosing based on diploma rates.

It may be that because RM is largely test in the cohort may be more academic/intense but I don’t know for sure (my kid did BCC IB DP and did not seem to experience the same level of intensity people have reported here for RM but we were happy with the program, for whatever that is worth).

DP but many schools in Europe 99% passing rate and some has 100%.

RMIB is among the top programs in the county, but getting in is a crap shoot. There just aren't that many seats and there are so many qualified kids that many who deserve this end up being denied. BCC's IB is a safe bet. I'm sure it's plenty challenging.

It's the curve, and possibly the amount of HW. Hard to say really without having kids in both.

That is a peculiar comment.

Private schools or public? How diverse are the schools compared to RMIB? Which countries in Europe?

Really? It was down to 72% at RMIB very recently.
