If I had to choose, I'd take BCC over any W. It's not just about academic averages, but feel it's just a healthier environment.

I've had kids in both clusters - WJ and BCC - and I much prefer WJ. Even overcrowded.

Could you pls share why?

The IB is not incredibly well taught. The consequence is that there are way fewer APs offered at BCC, since they're supposed to be an IB school. Also there is no guaranteed pathway beyond AP Calc BC, unlike at Whitman and WJ, which is definitely going to be a problem for one of my kids - it depends whether they have enough students who want the class, and whether a teacher can be found. It's always given at the other schools. And for WJ, my kid who went there never had a bad teacher. They were either good or went above and beyond. And currently, BCC has way more of a drug problem than the other two - something I hope will be addressed quickly.

Now WJ is overcrowded, and BCC is not. And my kids can walk home from BCC, which they can't do from WJ. Plus, BCC has slightly more socio-economic diversity than the other two. It's not all bad. It's a perfectly decent school in its own right. Just not my favorite.

I'm skeptical that the drug problem is any different. Sure, we may be more aware of this at BCC because of recent events, but the same problems exist at all these schools.

PP you replied to. Except that when you have kids in both schools (WJ and BCC), you can compare. It's true I don't have kids at Whitman, but no one we know who goes to Whitman reports seeing anything on the scale of BCC.
For MCPS publics in the Bethesda area, the issue seems to be localized to BCC. Drugs are everywhere, I know. But some years, they're more present in some schools and less so in others because it depends on who is dealing, who is selling and when they'll graduate and leave.

Sick of the sports moms and the the drama/ theater moms who push their kids to run over other kids is out of hand. They teach their kids to disregard the feelings of others and have a “ me first” attitude It’s just gross. Kids are allowed to mouth off and assert themselves every which way. No limits. The rudeness to authority figures is like nothing I have ever seen. Teachers, coaches, director of the musical and so on.

Gross. It’s just gross. This is a good school? One of the best in the state?

We get all that at RM too but we add in a variety of guns, overdoses, fights, assaults, and the weed/vape bathroom on the 3rd floor. Oh and no parking.

It's the best of both worlds

If you have to ass the sarcasm tag it wasn't sarcastic, it was stupid.

My kid has a life. School, sports then work or friends. They don't have time sit on a bus for 40 minutes.

please. Your kid isn't that special. Lots of kids spend 40min+/day on the bus. If it's too much, then you have choices -- cut back on activities, wake up earlier to get a parking spot; move to Wootton where they are sure to have ample parking spots; drive your kid to school.

This is one of the least of my concerns.

If you're not a troll, OP, you should be mature enough to understand that MCPS high schools are SO HUGE... you just need to change groups and voila! Whole new school experience.

WJ may be a W, but it isn't exactly like the others. I don't have kids at a W, but I'm partial to WJ. It seems low-key by comparison.

I am partial to WJ as well. My brother went there and always seemed like a low key nerdy school.

Kinda sad there is no family time. You are wealthy and yet make your kid work during the school year?

Exactly. Nice intellectual people. Probably due to proximity to NIH and all the parents who work there.

Agree, but not everyone values or prioritizes education, and fwiw my kid's bus ride which is under 2 miles also takes about 40 minutes because of the stops.

Some of the IB students spending 2 hours on the bus per day. I'm pretty sure they prioritize education.

We have this too at our Non-W, low-rated high school. The question I ask you is why do you think spoiled, bratty, rude kids and crazy parents are only at W schools?
You do realize that there are at least 2000+ students in an MCPS HS- you're bound to find these type of people everywhere. It's called life.

Maybe because she is talking about the school where her kid attends, which happens to be a W school? No where did she claim it only happens at W schools. She can only talk about the schools she knows.

Because she somehow expects that this wouldn't exist in one of the best high schools in the state: "Gross. It’s just gross. This is a good school? One of the best in the state?"
I hope everyone knows by now that schools aren't ranked based on student behavior.
