Tech was supposed to be a match for DS, but he was rejected. Anyone else in the same boat? Still waiting to hear from a few schools and accepted to a few, some with merit.
On the bright side, Blacksburg is remote and not near anywhere. I went there back in the day. Will be happy to have DS closer to home. |
I’m sorry for your kid- but remote and not near anywhere? That was not true when DH and I went there in the 90s and it’s even more built up now! |
DS too. really disappointing. and he's not happy. |
I also went there in the ‘90’s. Tech is a great school and a fun place to be a student, but Blacksburg is far. It’s not close to any big job centers for internships and the like. |

DD In. College of Science, math major, physics minor
In state, FCPS 1490 SAT 4.3 W, not sure on unweighted. Probably around 3.8 7 APs, 2 in science, 3 in math white |
40k + apps. Not a lock for anyone. Many kids with high stats and many qualified URMs. White male affirmative action is over. |
|
Please list stats — curious about the couple pps with sons and thought tech was a match and kids rejected.
I’ll be in this spot in a year. |
47,000+ applications for a little more than 7,000 spots. I imagine around 14,000 offers, although I haven’t seen confirmation of *that* — going on what they expect their yield to be. But that works out to, what, a 33% acceptance rate? Obviously varies by major. |
Congrats. Will she go? |
Deferred with 4.0UW/4.5W/1570 and 13 APs or post-APs. |
Last year’s yield was 28%, so about 53% predicted acceptance rate. |
GPA and rigor? |
What are you yammering about? |

My child is not applying.
I want to point out that the focus of VT is not just on admitting URM, it is URM and underserved students (First gen and low income). There are A LOT of first gen and low income white students, many of them males, in VA. Jus not NOVA. https://vtx.vt.edu/articles/2022/09/admissions-fall-census-2022.html So much of what is being posted is unbelievably offensive. The world is changing, and it is particularly hard on some as previous unfair advantages are taken away. I am the parent of an UMC white girl with fairly high stats. Every one of the white males with relatively high stats with whiny entirely parents on this thread would be admitted over her at the SLACs she has applied to. That is life. She will go somewhere good and get a great education. |
