In state? Engineering? Yield protection? I cannot think of another possible reason to hold off on this applicant. |
| If rejected/waitlisted, what other schools did your kid apply to? Where have they been accepted? |
That is nuts. Where else did they apply? |
Princeton, Harvard, Hopkins, Duke, UVA, bunch of others. VT was lowest ranked school. Already in at several higher ranked schools. If you are high stats and want VT, better go ED and show tons of interest. |
I thought they did not defer in the early action round? |
Yeah, sorry. It was waitlist and not deferral. Guess waitlist is worse. |
|
In at VCU, GMU, & UMW with merit. Waiting on JMU and W&M. Undecided major. |
In state? Engineering? Yield protection? But, UGH! |
Yes, in state engineering. Feels like yield protection but no way to tell for sure. |
| Waitlisted. In state. 3.0 GPA, 33 ACT. Attends rigorous private in DC with no APs |
Seems like no other explanation. But also don’t understand why VT would bother to engage in such a practice. |
UMD admissions seem much more straightforward than VT. UMD does not appear to yield protect, has no Early Decision, and application to school is not tied to major. I don't like the way VT tries to game the process and some of these decisions seem unfair and inappropriate. Particularly these where an In State Applicant seems to be denied because they are over-qualified and VT decides they will probably go elsewhere. |
Agreed. Not bitter but it seems silly. State school should accept the top in state applicants and not guess whether or not they may go elsewhere. |
THANK YOU!!! And based on your perspective, she'll be successful, well-adjusted adult ready to live, work and exist with a wide range of people. Whatever school she chooses to attend will be very lucky to have her! |
