Bravo bravo! The best part would be the conversation between the cops on the way to that school. |

<fixed the spelling of the word Principal> Let me take a stab at recreating the 911 call...
Operator: 911 what is your emergency Principal Heidi: We found a deleted Microsoft form titled "Homophobic Hub Club" in the recycle bin of a student's Chromebook from 2-4 months ago. Operator: Please describe the crime ma'am Principal Heidi: Maybe you didn't hear me correctly, the child used the word "Homophobic" in the title of a club that he was thinking about starting! Operator: And you say the suspect then deleted the club form? Principal Heidi: Not until after he shared it with two of his friends. Operator: So the said club was actually started? Principal Heidi: No, like I said, it was deleted..... 4 months ago Operator: Is the suspect currently in the school? Principal Heidi: No, he is at the hospital visiting his friend who was choked unconscious on a school bus. Operator: Wait, there was an assault that occurred on a school bus? Should I send an officer to investigate? Principal Heidi: Of course not. Let's get back to the actual crime that took place - the deleted form with the word "Homophobic" in the title. Can you confirm that this 12yo child will be charged as an adult? Operator: We..... can't..... what? Principal Heidi: Please hold one second..... Yes Trevor, please get a letter out to all the parents and make sure that a leaked copy makes it to the media..... boy, this is going to make me look like such a great leader Operator: Hello... Ma'am.... Principal Heidi: Sorry.... sorry, I'm so excited.... I can't wait to tell all my friends about this.... When can I get an officer down here? I secured the Chromebook in our evidence locker. Operator: Evidence locker? Principal Heidi: Actually, it's the empty locker in hallway 6 that hasn't worked since Timmy Chadwick's head got smashed into it. Operator: What? That sounds like a serious..... nevermind.... I know, back to the real crime. Principal Heidi: I need an officer here NOW. Operator: We can send an officer as soon as one is available. Unfortunately, our budgets were cut. Principal Heidi: Oh yea.... Sorry.... that might have been me. I started a club in 2019 called "Defund Our Police Yesterday" (DOPY). It was, like, so fun, we made t-shirts, met at TGI Fridays every Thursday (so ironic, right?). Bottomless chili fries.... yummm. Operator: Ok, Ma'am.... an officer will be there soon. <click> Operator: This is dispatch... we have a code... umm... I don't think there is a code for this. Please see Principle Heidi at Wood Middle School. Apparently 4-months ago a 12yo child created a google form about a fake club with the word homophobic in the title, shared it with his friends for a cheap laugh and immediately deleted it. Officer: <facepalm> 10-4 Your welcome! <wink> |
So you are saying homophobic kids who are homophobic because of their parents should get free passes on creating hate clubs? I am not following |
This is embarrassing. Your time to recreate something, your spelling, and you making light of a person doing their job. |
Actually, it’s pretty funny. I like the Principal and agree that she was just doing what MCPS wants her to do. But this post highlights the absurdity of MCPS. Even the kids see how nonsensical this is. Discussed it with my 13 year old yesterday. |
Why would you make light of a principal doing their job to make middle schoolers feel safe and mock them along with your middle schooler. Ick My 6th and 8th grader realize how wrong it was and how serious it is. They and their friends, nor I are making light of it. |
The Wood Students didn't even know about it until the Principal made it public. Do the children really feel more safe now? |
Really? So weird. What did your kids think was so serious about this offense? What about it made them feel unsafe? The fighting doesn’t make my kid always feel safe, but she wasn’t super concerned about some random notes on a Chromebook that really were pretty insignificant. |
Nope. Thoughts that stay in your head aren't a crime. It's when you inappropriately express them that problems arise. This probably wasn't a crime, but probably was a violation of the student code of conduct: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/students/rights/0851.22_2022-23_STUDENT_Code%20of%20Conduct_WEB.pdf "My words, actions, and attitudes demonstrate respect for myself and others at all times." |
You don’t have kids at the school. Plenty knew about it before the email |
Violating the student code of conduct doesn’t warrant a call to the police. I’m sure the kids who get in fights, threaten their teachers, or destroy bathroom fixtures are also violating the student code, but that doesn’t seem to warrant any where near the same level of attention. |

LGBTQ kids are higher risk for bullying and suicide. We need to take it seriously. Well, unless you're one of the bullies.
https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s40653-017-0175-7 Research has demonstrated that cyberbullying has adverse physical and mental health consequences for youths. Unfortunately, most studies have focused on heterosexual and cisgender individuals. The scant available research on sexual minority and gender expansive youth (i.e., LGBTQ) shows that this group is at a higher risk for cyberbullying when compared to their heterosexual counterparts. However, to date no literature review has comprehensively explored the effects of cyberbullying on LGBTQ youth. A systematic review resulted in 27 empirical studies that explore the effects of cyberbullying on LGBTQ youth. Findings revealed that the percentage of cyberbullying among LGBTQ youth ranges between 10.5% and 71.3% across studies. Common negative effects of cyberbullying of LGBTQ youth include psychological and emotional (suicidal ideation and attempt, depression, lower self-esteem), behavioral (physical aggression, body image, isolation), and academic performance (lower GPAs). Recommendations and interventions for students, schools, and parents are discussed. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11121-014-0510-2 Bullying was associated with odds of suicidal ideation twice that of non-victimized youth (aOR = 2.02, 95 % CI, 1.30, 3.13). Within sexual identity, the relation between bullying and suicidal ideation was particularly strong for gay, lesbian, and queer youth, even after adjusting for other influential factors (aOR = 6.29, 95 % CI, 2.69, 14.66). |
Nowhere do I see principal calls cops for writing words. |
You need to take the Constitution seriously too. Some people don’t agree with your view, accept it. Calling the cops on children that didn’t commit a crime- would you want your kids to experience that? This is on the incompetent principal. |
None of that is relevant here. None. |
