The kid in Wise county may not have the same opportunity. Excelling where opportunity lacks should be rewarded too. |
| Two kids got in to Tech. Both had a 4.2 weighted. SAT of 1090 and 1320. The 1090 kid was waitlisted but eventually got in. This was for 2021. 1320 kid got in to engineering. |
Where’s the VT bashing? VT is a fine school. So are other second tier VA in states. |
This is true these days. |
There’s no consistency on how they do things. This is what is aggravating Virginia residents. DC 4.0 and 1360 not in. Friend 4.5 and 1300. Not in. |
I am so sorry—DD has 3.43 and 3.75 weighted and got in. She score 1270 combined but higher on Math. |
No, VT is becoming considerably more competitive. |
VT is not second tier |
Who said non tech? Intro chem and bio classes will be smaller at JMU and Mary Washington. But some kids want a bigger range of students and interesting research labs. If you have a flexible enough personality, there’s advantage to both. Not suggesting this for history majors. |
This again? There are already multiple threads on this subject. Just because some parents of high achievers were shocked and dismayed that their kids didn't get into VT doesn't mean most high achievers aren't getting in. Anonymous websites are about the least scientific samplings of applicants. PLENTY of high stats kids get into VT. They can't take them all. |
DP. I disagree, as do thousands of others. Maybe - just maybe - different people have different preferences/priorities? Additionally, VT is not a "lateral" move from the schools you mentioned. Nice try, though. |
+1 Jealousy. |
What are you talking about? What two kids? How do you know their stats? Could you be making this up?
|
Don't bother engaging with the troll. Some very bitter parents here. |
DP. I disagree. I have two kids at VT, both humanities majors. They didn't want any other school and love VT. It's not just for tech majors. |
