Virginia Tech SAT Scores

OP this board is full of anecdotal and misinformation. Tech admits about 50% of applicants. Look at Naviance data for your DCs high school as well as their published stats online.

1. Did you and your child's other parent go to college?
2. Is your child an URM?

Those two things will matter a lot.

Does it help if only one parent went to college? Sort of a half-way first generation?

They ain’t getting in. This is awful

THIS is awful. What a gross way to talk about a child's performance. It's a kid. And those stats are only AWFUL among the weird snobs on this board. It's an A- GPA FFS.

I can’t speak to VT, but 33 ACT converts to a 1460 SAT, roughly - the range is 1450-1480. A 34 converts to a 1500 and 35 is a 1540. Just want to clarify in case folks are relying on data.

According to Princeton Review, a 33 ACT converts to a 1490-1510 SAT. But, not worth arguing over.

Actually, the PP above who said a 33 ACT is 1450 to 1480 SAT is correct. You should look at the ACT website for the SAT conversion. I know because my DC recently took the ACT. See link.

Are you a Virginia resident family? Just curious because my DC has a 3.6 un-weighted and 1450 SAT (from a DC private) and is hoping there might be a shot at VT? And I wouldn't mind the tuition.

Yes. We live in northern VA. But she applied to a small program. Maybe that had something to do with it.

Can I ask which program?

I'm having a hard time seeing how so many students have over a 4.0 gpa in Virginia.

Weighted GPAs in public school: full grade boost for an AP and half grade boost for an honors class.

Still. My child has a lot of those and with b pluses and A minuses, they aren't there.

I just don't see much of Virginia being terribly academic. I can't believe the biggest school in the state has OVER a 4.0 GPA as its average.

1/3 of y daughters graduating class in FCPS. Honors and AP get extra weighting.

Nope. Both parents need to be non-college educated to qualify as "first generation."
