Mid 30s - Tips for updating outdated millennial style

Anonymous
I seriously cannot believe how many presumably adult women care about looking trendy. The styles mentioned here, with the exception of bootcut jeans are ugly and going to be out of style and cluttering up your closet before you know it. And you’ll have been dumb enough to drop hundreds of dollars on clothes that don’t make you look nearly as good as you think.

Question: Can I save my skinny jeans and wear them with a more current combat-ish boot? I bought these and am struggling to think of any other cut of pant that would work.

Waterfall cardigans
Fitted jean jackets
Skinny jeans and colored jeans
The striped tshirts
The scarves
Dangly jewelry or anything like Kendra Scott

Get some wide leg, straight leg, or flared jeans. A pair of lug sole combat boots goes with anything, some platform white sneakers. Cardigans are cropped and chunky, jewelry is simple gold or silver. Switch to a middle part, I promise it looks fine on you and it will immediately update your style. Get a pair of tailored trousers, I like the ones at Abercrombie.

Buy neutrals. A well fitted tee in gray, black, white, tan. Pairs well with anything. Get some flared leggings for the weekend. Current tends are not as form fitting as the 2010s were, you’re going for a loose, casual fit. Cropped sweatshirts and oversized sweaters vs those prim and fitted ones from 2013.

I have tried everything you listed, and it all looks awful on me. The trends today are THE WORST, and I would rather look outdated than wear any of it. I will ditch statement jewelry for more delicate things but other than that… nope

Nah. You’re just older now and set in your ways. You’d be saying the same thing about skinny jeans and tunic style stops if you were 35 when they came into style.

Omg would you please stop talking about "skinny jeans and tunics"? No one is arguing for tunics. Tunics are not the only alternative to cropped boxy tops.

These are not current combat boots, I’m sorry. They would look especially dated with skinnies but not great with any other jean either. If you can , maybe return them for a lug sole boot instead.

I love when people act righteous over others caring anything about fashion.

This. Nobody gives men nearly as much grief over their frivolous hobbies, like fantasy football. But god forbid women enjoy something harmless and fun.

Why are you discounting what that PP thinks looks good on her own body? You have no reason to think her opinion it solely due to her age.

NP. It's hard to believe that this PP looks awful in literally everything the other PP listed, which included items such as straight-cut denim, flared denim, tailored trousers, white sneakers, fitted neutral t-shirts... I mean, come on!
