I mean, there's a reason why Generation Z is copying us right?
But seriously maybe we feel smug because what happens to be trendy is an updated riff on what we wore when we were young.

College and recent college age Black women and men have awesome style in this area, like the vintage Howard prep style Ralph Lauren was trying to brand but obviously has a long heritage. I say this as a 40 something Indian American mom. I love vintage, punk diy, and 70s in particular.

Someone please help with updating jeans. Millennial trying to ditch the skinny jeans. I tried so many straight leg jeans as a compromise and I just look awful. Even the Madewell Perfect Vintage jeans look bad. I'm average height and skinny except for the hips and butt. Should I just go with high-rise bootleg jeans?

Flares. You just might need to buy some shoes with a point and a slight heel to go with them. I’ve had a lot of issues with straight leg jeans myself, and gave up. Flares make me feel in style but not frumpy - they are still fitted through the leg and seat.

You don’t look awful in the straight legs, you’re just not used to seeing yourself in them.

+1 telling myself this as I online shop for jeans right now. I get hung up on what kind of shoes to pair with them.

PP I swear I do look bad. The mom jeans in style right now flatter my small waist, but make my butt look small (it's not) and they are so baggy in the thighs. I need to get them tailored haha.

But mom jeans are not in style. I don’t know what you’re trying. Try the 90s straight leg from Abercrombie or the Levi’s ribcage wedgie. If you really hate the straight leg, try something with a wider leg. Zara Marine straight looks great on me. Very small and fitted in the waist, high rise, but wide leg

What the heck did I just read?

I’ve walked away with no good ideas.

I’m fine breaking up with skinnies, I always preferred boot cut. But the two scoops girls? No.

Thanks for the rec! I'll try the Abercrombie ones. I think I call them mom jeans because I'm a 90s kid and it's what my mom wore.

. Agree, they look cheap and dated.

I just got the madewell Cali boot and they seem to do a good straddling the line away from skinnies.
