| Preface: I have been a SAHM mom for ten years. During Covid, didn’t really get out of the house much. Now that we are getting out more, I feel like styles have all changed! I feel like I am stuck in my colored jean/striped shirt/statement necklace and flats era and I really don’t know how to dress for anything. Looking for a few “quick fixes” to update my look. Or, maybe I should just do a huge purge and budget in a major wardrobe update? Am I that far gone? Sending SOS. |
| 90s are in. Im older than you (genx) and also struggling, but grateful that looks from my heyday are back in. |
Probably you could just buy some bootcut jeans and cropped sweaters/sweatshirts. I’m 10 years older than you and excited to return to my native bootcuts.
I still love striped shirts, though, so you probably don’t want to take advice from me. |
| ditch the bright colored jeans. flats are very much back in style. stripes are okay sometimes. the pandemic threw everyone for a loop so you arent as far behind as you think. |
| Bootcut jeans, cropped sweaters and tops, mock neck and high cut tanks are in. Thin gold or silver necklaces instead of chunky statement. Two_scoops_of_style on Instagram has a few “millennial makeover” reels that show outfits going from millennial to modern |
I just looked these videos up. They’re awesome! |
| Were colored jeans, striped shirts, and statement necklaces even still a thing pre-pandemic? I feel like those have been out since 2012/2013. No offense... |
| Striped shirts are never out of style, but ditch the skinny jeans, colored jeans, and statement necklaces for sure. If you have any cold shoulder tops or infinity scarves, donate those too. |
She did say she has been out of fashion for 10 years |
|
oops.
Not "out of fashion" but not able to concentrate on fashion |
| wait... I have to get rid of my tighter leg jeans? I like those |
They aren’t trendy but if they are flattering, keep em’. I think it’s especially the very tight skinny jeans, especially in colors, that read outdated.it’s harder to go wrong with a mid rise fitted straight leg. Cropped tops are also popular right now. As an adult I wouldn’t go around exposing large sections of my midsection but stray away from those long tunic tops that were in style for a period. |
| Substitute your colored skinnies for mom jeans, wide leg jeans or flares, etc. I like Agolde and Mother. Pick up some crop t-shirts and sweaters. Replace your statement necklaces with a gold curb chain and chunky gold hoops. And ditch the flats for lug sole loafers or boots. |
| OP, what do you mean by striped shirts? Are you talking Breton stripes, or striped button-downs? I wouldn't get rid of Breton stripes or simple striped t-shirts. Are stripes really "in" or "out"? While the style of the shirt may change, I feel that stripes are fairly timeless. |
| I was in a similar boat post-pandemic. I stopped wearing skinny jeans altogether and now live in high-waisted mom jeans. I also bought bodysuits, crop tops, and loafers. I would also look to celebrity street style for inspiration. My favorites are Dakota Johnson and Emma Roberts, because they manage to look current and age-appropriate. |
