There’s a whole thing on TikTok that she wore same dress in navy for Jubilee with earring the Queen gave her and white hat. Same dress and hat in black with same earrings - supposed to be a tribute to Queen. Haven’t bothered to verify.

WaPo reported that MM wore a black version of a dress she'd worn before, and KM wore a black version of a dress she'd worn before.

MM, who already was in the UK, probably called up Stella McCarthy and asked for a black version of the navy dress she'd worn before. She seemed to be trying to stay in the background, wore minimal jewelry and LOOKED COMPLETELY APPROPRIATE AND FINE. The British tabloids and some PPs here are obsessed with picking on her. And you wonder why she left.

Kate looked great. Kate's mom reminded me of Eliza Doolittle, pre-makeover. Camilla looked fine - I'm getting the sense she and Charles aren't terribly thrilled with having their cozy little lives upended.

I thought Beatrice looked good.

They both look lovely and appropriate to me. I just love Michael.

Carole really suffers from comparison to her daughter, since they are dressed in very similar styles. Kate's coat dress was impeccably tailored while Carole's is to broad in the shoulder. The visible zipper on Carole's also really bugs me -- it just looks tacky and makes you realize the buttons are just decorative. And I can't help but look at that necklace and think it looks cheap (obviously) compared to Kate's choker from the Queen.

I wonder if she intentionally mimicked her daughter's outfit or if this was just an unfortunate accident. I don't think she looks bad and if I saw her ate a funeral I wouldn't criticize, it's just that I see her and immediately think of Kate and she looks worse in comparison.

Kate looks perfect, as usual. I don't care for MM's hat. It looks like like a sun hat for the beach. But hats are hard to pull off or most, especially Americans that aren't used to buying and wearing them formally. Her dress is fine, but did she not keep the cape on? Someone mentioned bare arms..

The cape is part of the dress — she didn’t take it off. The “bare arms” squeals came from the forearms peeking from under the cape. More ridiculous headlines used against MM and no one else (similar to the OMG! They’re holding hands!! cry).

Don't forget that long gloves apparently are "trashy."

I just love Beatrice's look. I actually think she looks the most stylish of them all. (Plus my baby is the same age as hers, so props to her for losing all the baby weight!). I really like Kate's look too. I like when the fab jewelry is trotted out.

I think Jill Biden's headband looks very nice. Not Mickey Mouse. I'm not sure that I could wear a hat and would feel funny wearing one as an American.

I mean... they are rich but Kate is the Princess of Wales... the next Queen. She's wearing priceless jewels and designer dresses tailored by her on-call tailor. I'd expect them to look a bit different!

Oh I’m so interested to read everyone else’s thoughts! So funny how so many of us disagree. I thought Kate looked incredible and that dress is essentially a uniform for her/ she has nearly the same thing in many colors. Her make up was perfect and she’s so beautiful. I am not a fan if the choker but understand why she wore it.

MM - I think she’s very beautiful and didn’t really mind her heavy make up or the hat although also thought it looked a little summery. I love the dress, I think it being a little dramatic was ok since everything else was very plain and she didn’t wear much jewelry. I am most confused about the gloves, maybe because I don’t really know etiquette in the UK. It seemed in most pictures women were holding their gloves and not wearing them, but Eugenie and Bea were definitely wearing gloves. It kind of seemed like they had shorter wrist length gloves but it was hard to tell though because they had long sleeves on. I guess the combo of bare arm plus long shiny gloves looked like more appropriate for an evening event with a ball gown. But I really don’t know (American here).

I thought Sophie was beautiful and I love seeing her emotions. The York sisters were just ok for me though I really liked Bea’s hat.

I don’t know how to post pictures but the Queen of Spain is one of my style icons generally and I thought she looked amazing as always. Tired or emotional though.

Queen Letizia of Spain:

Also, if this helps others: the key to posting photos on DCUM is that when you find a photo to post, right click on it and select "open image in new tab". Then copy and paste the link in the new tab and use the "Img" brackets on DCUM (just like you'd use to make something bold or underlined, only it codes it to read as an image). But the key is to open the image in it's own tab or window because that makes it easy to ensure you are grabbing the correct link. Hope that helps.

MM wears a lot of bronzer and I’m not really sure why. She already has nice color and skin. It looks way too much in daytime sunlight. I don’t find her dress inappropriate but it was an off choice. The bare arms, cape, plus elbow gloves was a weird combo. I’m sure she had had plenty of black dresses and/or black jackets to pick from, yet she chose that? Odd choice, but she doesn’t look bad.

This comment so perfectly exemplifies how much MM cannot win in this world. Literally no matter what she does, people will criticize.

If she'd worn a simple black suit, people would have made cracks about her acting career.

If she'd worn a dress coat, she would be accused of trying to copy Kate.

If she'd looked better, she'd be accused of trying to grasp for attention.

If she'd looked worse, she'd be accused of not trying hard enough for the occasion.

Imagine trying to get dressed or function in a situation like this. If I were her I would want nothing more than to hop a plain back to LA so I could go hang out in the pool with my kids and forget all about these horrid people. I wonder if she regrets falling for Harry. I really do think she just fell in love and got swept up in the royal fairy tale aspect and had no idea the degree to which both the press and certain members of the family would instantly seize on her as a target for their suppressed rage.

Enough with the botox forehead on otherwise beautiful women, why would she do this to herself? It looks ridiculous on EVERY. SINGLE. WOMAN. who does this, please stop.

Anonymous wrote:I always feel like a lot of the attendees at these royal family events look tacky and ridiculous. Especially the Americans, but plenty of the Brits as well -- people just seem to struggle with the "protocols" while still wanting to wear something eye-catching and interesting and most people fail, to be honest. Like look at Fergie and Beatrice:

Fergie's suit is too tight and totally the wrong shape for her body. Her hat looks silly and small (almost everyone who opts for these little fascinators instead of a proper hat looks silly, IMO, especially at a solemn occasion instead of a wedding). The gloves and sheer hose, which could look classy and traditional if she'd worn a more simple dress in an a-line with less fussiness, instead look twee and unfashionable.

Beatrice does better but her insistence on wearing her hair down looks sloppy -- her hat would look much better if she'd done a smooth updo like her mom. Her outfit is still too fussy for the occasion (lace pleat insets AND gold buttons? come on -- it is a FUNERAL).

Everyone is praising Kate for nailing it, which she did, but also -- it's not that hard! Wear clothes that actually fit and don't make you look like a sausage in a casing. Opt for simple and classic over adorned and complicated. Get your hear done and tame fly-aways. Since you are wearing a hat which is not something women almost every do other than at these events, keep it simple and classic and make sure it is the proper size and shape for your head. Yes, this would be a tall order for a random American, but these people are actual royalty. Whyyyyyy have the not fi
gured it out yet? This assignment was especially easy because (1) you had lots of time to plan, (2) the color scheme was very simple, and (3) no one was going to criticize you for going to plain and simple on this one. And yet so many of them screwed it up. It's amazing.

Beatrice looks just perfect. Lovely dress and beautiful.

I made the bare arms comment. I didn’t see it criticized in the press. I just prefer arms covered at funerals and other solemn events. I don’t think she looks trashy, I was just making a comment about her fashion choice. I’m also one of those people who thinks women should only wear closed-toe shoes to the office. It’s just an opinion.

I think we ALL want her to hop a plane home. But she doesn’t have a platform without her Royal connections and she wants to be mega-wealthy and famous. That’s why she can’t stop talking about them. If she wanted her privacy, goodness gracious, she could have it. It would be relatively easy to move to a town where she could get it.
