Why so much of a woman's value is tied to her dress and shoes?

It’s not but this is the beauty and fashion forum so that’s what we are talking about.

The blue 2018 version was fine; the funeral ensemble is atrocious. She looks like she's trying to be Jessica Lange in American Horror Story: Coven. I think she or her stylist was trying to glamorize the outfit with the gloves but it just ended up looking witchy.

I think she looks classic and appropriate. I could see this looking witchy on someone else but I think she pulls it off.

I love it. I think she looks absolutely classic.

One thing that just struck me is that because of the cape Meghan was more physically closed off from the rest of the family than she would have been in a dress with sleeves. The cape was like a cocoon. Particularly in the moments when she is with the other women and children and not with Harry, this has the effect of making her look particularly solitary. This is not a criticism and I also don't think it was intentional. But I think her image is striking to me because I think this was a particularly lonely and isolating event for her, especially as she was placed in a fairly prominent role but without the familial connections and history with others that the other had.

I think her appearance at this funeral will wind up being very memorable to people for better or worse. I personally think she looked beautiful and stoic in a very awkward situation for her, and I applaud her for sticking to her style instincts and looking like herself, knowing people would criticize her no matter what. Others will view her look as unacceptable and evidence of how she does not belong within the royal family. Either way, this look will be remembered.

I don't think anyone necessarily views it as "unacceptable"; it's not like she wore a bright red gown. It's just a matter of liking it or not liking it. That is all.

One young woman wore a bright red, revealing dress to my FIL's funeral. That was inappropriate. ( oh look who's wearing a push up bra kind of thing)

I don't see the problem with Meghan's outfit.

I think they look great and add interest, but I never see anyone actually wearing them in real life unless they are elderly. It seems like a 1950's trend in America, but I'm thinking of getting one for my coat. I really liked that large pearl leaf one that Kate wore a week or two ago and that had been the Queen's.

I wear a broach on my wool winter coat -- I love it. I also like the look on sweaters. Even better, a silk scarf draped over a sweater and then secured with a broach! But yes, these latter examples feel over the top in most settings. If I were back in a conservative office I'd do it though. Especially as I get older, I think you can get away with stuff like this a little more that would look silly on a younger woman. But I'm WFH now and broaches on my indoor clothes are too much. But I have a big one I wear on my black coat in the winter and I love that it's a little bit of color and sparkle in the middle of the winter on an otherwise pretty unassuming black coat.

If you’re going to rock a brooch you should learn how to spell it first.

That piece of jewelry can be referred to as a broach. Maybe you need to read more.

Nope! https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/brooch-vs-broach-usage

DP. You really do need to read more. The article you reference clearly indicates both words can be used. The subtitle is this: One you wear, and, sorry, the other you can wear too

The article concludes with this:
You can, of course, decide to keep things distinct and use brooch for the jewelry and broach for introducing topics; no one will complain if you do. But likewise you shouldn't complain if others use broach for both. History and current use both back the practice up.

That young woman needed attention and got it. Meghan’s outfit was fine for the occasion.

Some people view it as unacceptable. And it also seems that people's opinions on this look tend to closely track their opinions of MM generally. Just an observation.

I don't like Meghan and I'm the person who took her green outfit apart. Her funeral outfits were all good-looking and appropriate to the occasion. She did look like she was posing at the funeral but this has nothing to do with the outfit. All the dresses were good.

Posing was at its best, tear wiping stoke was simply genius.

Tear wiping looked like she was trying to fee the boundary of a growing zit.

No. Married to a grandson. Completely clued out on appropriate attire for some things.

Oh hey.... did you know MM breathed during the service?! Such an attention grabber! It was probably fake, too.

I'm glad to see Charlene back, but this is terrible. It's too stark and the skirt looks poorly sewn and wrinkled. And it's probably one of the most expensive dresses there.

That dress is hideous, and she looks sick in the face. She almost looks like she is on a tranquilizer.

There’s another photo circulating of her in an off-the-shoulder dress, black veil, and rosary. Supposedly at the funeral. I have no clue how to post a photo but was that a different event? I thought the heads of State only attended the actual funeral?

Agree she looks very unwell, they say she nearly died during that long-term illness she had while in Africa.

To me it looked like she was scratching her face. This is like when Chris Pine realized the sunglasses he'd thought he'd misplaced were sitting in his lap and instead everyone thought Harry Styles had spit on him in front of a crowd. People need to take a Xanax and dial down the insane celebrity theories. As they say on Twitter, please go touch some grass.

this is the reason the rest of us can't have normal conversation about Rachel Zane.
