I'm glad to see Charlene back, but this is terrible. It's too stark and the skirt looks poorly sewn and wrinkled. And it's probably one of the most expensive dresses there.

That dress is hideous, and she looks sick in the face. She almost looks like she is on a tranquilizer.

There’s another photo circulating of her in an off-the-shoulder dress, black veil, and rosary. Supposedly at the funeral. I have no clue how to post a photo but was that a different event? I thought the heads of State only attended the actual funeral?

Agree she looks very unwell, they say she nearly died during that long-term illness she had while in Africa.

I don't think these are from the funeral. At least not QEII's -- the background doesn't look right either, nor the lighting. Perhaps she attended some kind of memorial in Monaco for the queen and the photos were confused? The ones in the long black coat dress are from the funeral on Monday.

Look at her grimacing in the upper picture while Albert is grinning away to glory.

The necklace was beautiful. Diana wore it a lot in her 20's and early 30's (before she passed.)

I agree. It was gorgeous.

She looks pregnant.

I think at a funeral the goal is to dress in a way that’s both modest and unmemorable. This black dress certainly checks both of those boxes. If they rode one of the busses over, her dress may have wrinkled on the ride. Or perhaps it needed a better press. I don’t love the Prada bag with that triangle logo but there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s difficult to find a bag without some kind of mark on it.

Apparently the hat and dress were a homage to the Queen: https://people.com/royals/meghan-markle-wears-black-version-of-dress-from-queen-elizabeth-92nd-birthday-to-funeral/

The blue 2018 version was fine; the funeral ensemble is atrocious. She looks like she's trying to be Jessica Lange in American Horror Story: Coven. I think she or her stylist was trying to glamorize the outfit with the gloves but it just ended up looking witchy.

I think she looks classic and appropriate. I could see this looking witchy on someone else but I think she pulls it off.

I love it. I think she looks absolutely classic.

One thing that just struck me is that because of the cape Meghan was more physically closed off from the rest of the family than she would have been in a dress with sleeves. The cape was like a cocoon. Particularly in the moments when she is with the other women and children and not with Harry, this has the effect of making her look particularly solitary. This is not a criticism and I also don't think it was intentional. But I think her image is striking to me because I think this was a particularly lonely and isolating event for her, especially as she was placed in a fairly prominent role but without the familial connections and history with others that the other had.

I think her appearance at this funeral will wind up being very memorable to people for better or worse. I personally think she looked beautiful and stoic in a very awkward situation for her, and I applaud her for sticking to her style instincts and looking like herself, knowing people would criticize her no matter what. Others will view her look as unacceptable and evidence of how she does not belong within the royal family. Either way, this look will be remembered.

I don't think anyone necessarily views it as "unacceptable"; it's not like she wore a bright red gown. It's just a matter of liking it or not liking it. That is all.

Some people view it as unacceptable. And it also seems that people's opinions on this look tend to closely track their opinions of MM generally. Just an observation.

I don't like Meghan and I'm the person who took her green outfit apart. Her funeral outfits were all good-looking and appropriate to the occasion. She did look like she was posing at the funeral but this has nothing to do with the outfit. All the dresses were good.

Posing was at its best, tear wiping stoke was simply genius.

It's perfectly banal and fine, but for someone who has access to whatever she wants to wear, she could have picked something a little more classic, like the day coat type dresses the other ladies were wearing. This just felt thrown together and the gloves were ill fitting and hat seemed too casual for the Queen's funeral. She does seem to have a little bump there--either she is very early pregnant or just didn't care to put on some smoothing undergarments. I noticed that Harry's pants seemed way too long for him (sorry I still can't figure out how to post photos) and they both just sort of seemed unprepared unlike the other royals who probably had those outfits picked out for some time (as morbid as it sounds)

Thanks for posting, I just couldn’t figure it out. Charlene always looks so pitiful- I don’t say this in a mean way, she just looks profoundly sad all of the time. Like she’s not really present.

Queen Elizabeth, grandmother Queen Mary, and Queen Mother at King George VI funeral

I like the Queen Mother's outfit here, the shoes and the jacket/coat dress.

Queen Mary's headpiece is rather scary, though.

Did Queen Mary ever smile?! Meanwhile, the Queen Mother almost always seemed to be smiling, at least for photographs.

Not that Queen Mary would be smiling at a funeral for her son, but, a an aside, I don't think I've ever seen a photo of her smiling at any period in history.

It is a sweet pic and I see a resemblance between little sister Mary and pics of Princess Anne as a child.

Are these ladies wearing black pearl necklaces? What kind of earrings do you think they are wearing? The necklaces looked like beads at first glance they are so large, but I assume these are precious pearls?

Masako’s wearing black pearls. Jetsun Pema’s necklace looks metallic.

She is wearing the same style earrings that Elizabeth liked to wear. Elizabeth owned several pairs of earrings similar to this style. I'm wondering if one set was from her grandmother.

The other thing of note is Queen Mary's waist. She must be wearing a corset. Her waist is tiny after having three children.

That’s why she’s never smiling.
