University of Florida - who’s in and major / stats?

Which colleges and universities offer students the best value? The calculation used here takes into account a school's academic quality, as indicated by its 2022 U.S. News Best Colleges ranking, and the 2020-2021 net cost of attendance for an out-of-state student who received the average level of need-based financial aid. The higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the deal. Only schools ranked in or near the top half of their categories are included because U.S. News considers the most significant values to be among colleges that are above average academically.

Since I assume most of the commentators here are from The DMV area, Florida isn’t even considered the best value in its own state. That honor goes to Florida State at #44. UF is #126 nationally. Instate is a good deal, but I guess being from out of state is not so great.

The University of Alabama is #132 in Best Value Schools. We’re catching up to Florida! Roll Tide!

Congrats Florida admits - way to go - great school! For those who didn’t get admitted, no worries, as take comfort in the fact this was an unusual and unpredictable year for admissions, and that there are many fine schools out there. Good luck!

If you are going to make us read this, then you should too. The 50% of methodology is based on financial aid. Florida is pretty inexpensive (less aid) compared to the others, yet is within a few slots in the straight-up national rankings for private and publics. If we are going to use this, we might as well use the Forbes list of top schools. There, UF is higher than Brown and a few of the T5 Publics…

You Gatorbators love to use USNWR to brag about your #5 public school ranking. Have to take the good with the bad.

This. Exactly why the other ranking comparison was laughable. Those going to UF should be excited it’s a T5 Public (tied with UNC), T25 on Forbes and T28 on USNAWR (next to the other 5 publics). Congrats

So we like USNWR when it grades UF highly, but dislike it when it doesn’t. How convenient!

Just pointing out the methodology is skewed for the argument of “value.” (But, aren’t you doing the same??). I would take the standard rankings in USNAWR as the benchmark, but you pulled out this silly other stat. Touché

Let’s bring back the “world rankings “ poster, that was fun!

Yeah, I wouldn’t use that phrase. It’s racist.

Jesus Christ.

Just another cracker who doesn’t seem to care that Blacks were fed to alligators as “gator bait”. That’s where the phrase comes from.

“Cracker” sounds racist too. One seems accidental, the other seems intentional.

A white person who is ignorant of that term’s origin and the declines to apologize for using it … that’s poor character. We can do better. I have never used that term and didn’t know its racist origin. Thank you for educating me!

I’m confused, which word did you use? One is certainly racist (and intentional), the other seems to be (I trust your facts, as I never knew) but was accidental. Both are bad (if your assumptions are true), but the intentional use of a racist word is even worse. Words are just letter, but meanings and intent can be very harmful.

People who prattle on about anti-White racism are tiresome and have poor character. Sure, both are bad. Anti-Black racism is entrenched, endemic, and deadly. Trot your faux victimization wares to someone else. Signed, Middle Aged White Lady

So, to be clear, ma’am: it’s ok for you to use a racist word intentionally to call out another’s use of a racist word (assuming you are correct as I don’t know) unintentionally. Interesting times.
