Best Value Schools National Universities Which colleges and universities offer students the best value? The calculation used here takes into account a school's academic quality, as indicated by its 2022 U.S. News Best Colleges ranking, and the 2020-2021 net cost of attendance for an out-of-state student who received the average level of need-based financial aid. The higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the deal. Only schools ranked in or near the top half of their categories are included because U.S. News considers the most significant values to be among colleges that are above average academically. Since I assume most of the commentators here are from The DMV area, Florida isn’t even considered the best value in its own state. That honor goes to Florida State at #44. UF is #126 nationally. Instate is a good deal, but I guess being from out of state is not so great.
If you are going to make us read this, then you should too. The 50% of methodology is based on financial aid. Florida is pretty inexpensive (less aid) compared to the others, yet is within a few slots in the straight-up national rankings for private and publics. If we are going to use this, we might as well use the Forbes list of top schools. There, UF is higher than Brown and a few of the T5 Publics… https://www.forbes.com/top-colleges/
You Gatorbators love to use USNWR to brag about your #5 public school ranking. Have to take the good with the bad.
