This is getting weird

It’s not weird. It’s just proving a point that being a so called top 5 State university doesn’t mean much when the differences are that great.

Ok, gotta run - defending against crazy is exhausting. Whether it’s T5, T28, T25, T188 or whatever, good luck to the recent Gator admits - how far you will go! And what a great accomplishment in this unusual and uber competitive year. You all are clearly intelligent, well-rounded, and lucky!

Good luck to those others who are still seeking their school. And finally, good luck to those with nothing better to do under that bridge

Yeah, I wouldn’t use that phrase. It’s racist.

Jesus Christ.

Just another cracker who doesn’t seem to care that Blacks were fed to alligators as “gator bait”. That’s where the phrase comes from.

“Cracker” sounds racist too. One seems accidental, the other seems intentional.

A white person who is ignorant of that term’s origin and the declines to apologize for using it … that’s poor character. We can do better. I have never used that term and didn’t know its racist origin. Thank you for educating me!

I’m confused, which word did you use? One is certainly racist (and intentional), the other seems to be (I trust your facts, as I never knew) but was accidental. Both are bad (if your assumptions are true), but the intentional use of a racist word is even worse. Words are just letter, but meanings and intent can be very harmful.

People who prattle on about anti-White racism are tiresome and have poor character. Sure, both are bad. Anti-Black racism is entrenched, endemic, and deadly. Trot your faux victimization wares to someone else. Signed, Middle Aged White Lady

So, to be clear, ma’am: it’s ok for you to use a racist word intentionally to call out another’s use of a racist word (assuming you are correct as I don’t know) unintentionally. Interesting times.

“Assuming you are correct as I don’t know”??? Educate yourself. Google is your friend. You have been given a heads up that it is a horrible thing to say. Is this still common refrain by students at UF in 2022? Embarrassing

All I know, ma’am is that you were not only name-calling, but used a racist name to call out the offender. No one else was name calling nor using a racist word with harmful intent, but you.

84 degrees and sunny in Gainesville, Florida today.

Those lucky students headed to UF from the mid-Atlantic can leave their winter coat at home. Go Gators!

Middle aged white lady here again. I am not the PP. Also not the person who used the offensive term (either one). I don’t think either term is ok. But I do think white people who try to play the victim on racism have poor character. Better just to listen and learn how we can be part of the solution.

It is just crazy to argue against UF.

Not everyone can go to the same 5 schools.

What I loved about it was the diversity. All kinds of students, majors, classes, sports, activities.

All the top companies recruit from UF for undergrad business. That's ultimately what matters.

I really appreciate UF for accepting all three of my kids although none of them chose to attend.
It's a well rounded solid school.
I wish UF all the best.

How does any one know the color of anyones skin here? One poster said a term that was not intentional / used in non-offensive context by many others (although now knows it has historically racist undertones), while the other called out racism by calling the poster a racist name (which assumed their skin color). How do we know any of these posters are white? Because the second poster called the original poster a white racial slur. You, ma’am, you automatically jumping conclusions (especially if you were not either poster).
