Interesting, as Florida has really shot up the rankings since I was in school. After a quick search
Just now: U.S. News & World Report 2021- “Historically, five schools have defined what it means to be one of the nation’s best public universities – the University of California, Los Angeles; the University of California, Berkeley; the University of Michigan; the University of Virginia, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. These schools have led the nation for 30 years. The University of Florida is now in that group of elite universities as the No. 5 ranked public university in the country.” The public university ranking also parallels UF’s rise in other rankings. U.S. News ranked UF No. 9, tied with Stanford and Brown, for the best student outcomes among all public and private institutions. Additionally, U.S. News ranked UF on a prestigious list of the nation’s most innovative universities, as well as among the top schools on lists for undergraduate research. Good stuff. Way to go folks. |
| UF deserves the rankings rise, but it’s got a ways to go to be among the very elite public schools. It’s heading in the right direction for sure. I assume it’s just a matter of time before it overtakes UNC and UVA to become the premier public school in the south. |

I think they are all pretty close, especially when all 6 are within 9 slots on the US News rankings (between 20-28). UF received 64,000 applications this year, up from 48,000 last year. Assuming they accept 50% more than the 6,000 slots for freshman class, the acceptance hovers around 20%. Defiantly a strong school, on the rise, with lots of interest. |
And Florida required test scores, so the 64,000 that applied had to fall within a certain range or they were wasting their time. The other schools were optional, which means more pie-in-the-sky hopes and dreams were shattered. UF likely had a very strong applicant class as a result, especially for out of staters. |
85% of UF students are instate. Florida, as a state overall, does not have very good public school systems. So the strength of the applicant class is severely skewed toward instate residents. |
There are over 35,000 undergraduates at UF. Your 6,000 slots is a lowball figure. |
I pity you fools. |
| Congratulations Gators!!! |
From UF website: “In 2020-21, we received a record number of nearly 53,000 applications for approximately 6,300 seats in the Class of 2025.” |
Wow, VERY tough to get in as an out of stater - way to go!! Great school |

This piqued my interest, as never thought of UF this way. But seems to be trending up in the last 5-10 years. Impressive rise into T25 on Forbes list, and right there with the other schools on UsN.
Here was last years Middle 50%, so likely much higher this year with all the competition: GPA 4.4-4.6 ACT 30-34 SAT 1330-1470 And one of the top schools for sports. Congrats Gator Nation |
| One of the best schools for the money as well…hmmm |
