Start there! Ask for the staffer who handles public safety and traffic concerns.

-Former McLean resident who had quick response when I called (long ago)

Does this type of person exist? Great idea, if you could find such a person.

^^ PP again. I also meant to add that I'm wondering if the Principal has explored the possibility of lengthening the dismissal window so that cars have more time to KNR instead of all bunching at once.

I don’t think the window of time would make a difference. Parents are in line waiting by 3pm for a 335 dismissal. Letting the time parents pick up be later won’t make a difference to these people. They will wait 40 min to get their child 5 min earlier.

Yes, what the school and neighbors need to do is find a way to discourage parents from lining up early. What is wrong with people that they have to arrive so early? I'd much rather have my kid waiting in kiss and ride than me waiting on the street.

This is where a call to local police can help. There is a no idling law in VA, and there must be a no obstruction law. Since there is no shoulder, taking up the entire lane in a no passing zone while idling for 30+ minutes must be a ticketable offense. Imagine if a emergency vehicle came along.

if being stuck in a line of cars was a ticketable offense, the state troopers would make their yearly quotas in a single rush hour just hanging out on 66

Idling is not the same as being stuck in traffic, moron.

This is so true. On Tuesday they were already queuing up by 2:50pm. I guess some people just want to be the first one to pick up their child. Period.

I just wish one of those people were here to tell us WHY. I don't understand, I really don't.

It's so tight through this stretch and there is that almost 'small ravine' for a shoulder. I don't think an emergency vehicle could pass when this stack up happens from chesterbrook pool to St Dunstans.

+1 it's even dangerous for the school bus that is trying to get to the school!

Back when I has an ES student, one had a tutor session right after school (dyslexia) and if I was not one of the first ones on line we would have been late. There was no wiggle room on the time as the tutor wanted to start as early as possible.

I would imagine that at least a few of the people on some days have an appointment they want to get their kid to at 4pm or something, so waiting way beforehand to make sure they make the 4pm ortho appt, or music lesson, or whatever is what they think they have to do to make the appt on time.
