Studio McGee Netflix Show

I had several issues:
Everything that she does looks the same
It's all white (which often isn't practical when you have kids)
there is way too much emotional squeeling and "crying"
The husband is completely superfluous, in the last episode he was actually watching a game on his phone while in the "interview" room. Why is he even there?

I didn't see anything particularly original or exciting at all, just don't see much point in watching any future episodes.

Honestly around here you would probably pay the same.

I had to fast forward through the first episode. I am pretty sure she kept the curtain rods that were there or else she replaced them with identical ones. I liked the furniture layout in the room but the show was so annoying. I won't watch more episodes, which is too had because I love design shows and I am desperate for content. the hgtv app locked all the episodes of curb appeal with John so I can't even go back and rewatch him. I mean them.

Also, there are lots of closeted gay men in that world and might her husband be one of them?

My first thought was the husband is gay.

I came here to see if anyone else noticed this. The vibe between them is more like he’s the best gay friend. It was difficult to watch because it’s so obvious that he irritates her for reasons unknown to the viewers.

I think she had some great designs but she is definitely held back by the man she is married too. He seemed lazy tbh. I would love to see them do the show without the husband because I think it greatly impacted the quality.

I didn’t mind the all white cast or the high budgets of the participants. It’s representative of that market so it shouldn’t be that shocking, but ultimately the show could remain viable if they cut the husband. I actually liked Shea and thought she did a great job delivering what her customers wanted. I do wish that she took more design risks though. Does anyone know of any Netflix or Hulu shows that are serious about design? I feel like I’ve watched pretty much every one but would love to hear what everyone else’s favorites are.

It is very very basic. It looks like a lot of flips I've seen.

I rolled my eyes at this, but then I watched the show, and I have to agree. They clearly wanted him there so there would be someone for her to banter with, but the chemistry is very awkward and he really doesn’t add anything.

I like Room to Improve on Prime. It features an architect that does home renovations in Ireland, so it has a different sensibility than the US shows, which are starting to all look alike to me.

My thought, as well. Or is it because he's from California? Do men from California talk like him? And the constant stupid dad jokes are too much.

Not really impressed.

She didn't even finish an associate's degree in interior design at community college, let alone go to design school. The lack of exposure to real design training shows. You don't know what you don't know.

I don’t care if she went to school or not but I would like examples of where a lack of design training showed... please share! As a design junkie I would love to go back through with your notes in hand.

There is a Miles Redd Greenwich house in the current Veranda that overflows with design knowledge and it is absolutely hideous imo and I often like his houses. So design knowledge and training is not everything.

I do think the projects on the show all kind of look the same and they are just bleh. Every house gets the same palette and furniture and array of baskets and bad pottery no matter it’s location or architectural style. That house is LA was so cool and they made it look just like a McMansion in Utah. They just kind of all look the same. And like, in one bathroom she put an old timber beam on the ceiling. But wtf is it doing there? It’s a brand new house! It just makes no sense. But it’s a brand so I guess it’s good that it’s consistent.

Most people on those design shows just need someone to get them to declutter and tell them where to put their furniture.

She does as good a job as anyone. She does well with the McMansions she designs.

Now I'll have to go back and look for the gay thing. I do think it's more that he's a California guy.

I don't know any dads like him and I live in California. But I think they are probably 15 yrs younger than my dh and our friends so IDK. Maybe he is more representative of the older millennial men.

I went to watch Room to Improve and I like it although sometimes I fast forward through the middle of the episodes. They are long!

I didn't realize there were so many Irish shows on prime! They show up as other suggestions. I actually really like Best Laid Plans even more than Room to Improve!

Oooooh I like Design Doctors too.

I was surprised that the people on the show had to bring in the money. To me a Dream Home Makeover is one that I don’t have to finance. 🤣

Yep that's 95 percent of the dream for me
