I am a White Woman Trapped in a Black Woman's Body! AMA

Do you feel comfortable socializing with black women of the same SES as you? Is there a difference in how you feel between AA women and immigrant black women?

Plus I have a daughter and want to serve as a good example to her so she will hopefully love her appearance. However I grew up in all white neighborhoods and went to all white schools. I now live in a predominantly white neighborhood.

How do you think it makes your daughter feel to be forced to be one of the few black girls in her neighborhood? I'm white, but it sounds like you did what was comfortable for you without taking into consideration what would be most comfortable for your daughter. Does she feel like a white girl trapped in a black body

She's only 5 so I haven't noticed anything yet. But it is possible and I do worry about that. However I wanted her to get a good education in a safe neighborhood so we ended up moving here.

I sometimes feel comfortable socializing with black women from the same SES. But sometimes they can be a little snooty and that's just not my cup of tea. The white women I have met seem more down to earth. I definitely feel more comfortable around black immigrants then black American women.

Are you married? Is your spouse black?

Interesting.

I am Eurasian, and since I was raised in Europe, feel much more "white European" than Asian, culturally and linguistically. However... I look like my Asian parent, and I am treated like an Asian. There is a subtle difference, probably not as significant as between white and black in certain situations. People assume I good at math (not) or not artistic or literary (actually I am). People think I'm a Tiger Parent - and they're right, but I take after my white parent in that regard. My Asian parent couldn't have cared less.

So I get it.
