Do you ever find yourself having a "smug married" moment?

I admit I have this type of moment on occasion. Two in particular: a few friends who are not married and/or do not have children but are in their 30s post tons of pictures on facebook of their dog. This seems kind of sad to me. The other type of person I feel smug about is 35ish year olds who are still out bar hopping on the weekends. I just feel like their life is a little pointless, without deeper meaning that marriage and kids bring.

Yes I know these feelings are really obnoxious on my part. Would never admit in real life to feeling this smugness!

I mostly feel jealous. I *wish* I only had myself and my dog to worry about.

+ a million

Add me to that list. Especially as my dog is dying, I am feeling pretty sentimental about her. I have one FB friend who also has a kid, and a dog, and a cat. For some reason, this FB friend manages to capture picture gold with her pets, not so much with her kid. I HATE cats, but I always crack up when i see this friend's pictures.

Here is one thing to remember: you are not your FB friends' only audience. Plenty of people do like the dog pictures, or the couple pictures, or the food pictures. You can't please everyone, so try not be such monumental bitches about everything.

I feel similarly towards pictures of kids/babies. Don't you have anything else going on in your life? Do you really think other people care about Larla's first bite of peaches? Get over yourself and your offspring. A husband and kids don't give your life meaning. Check out relationship forum if you need confirmation.

People who post pictures of their dog are pretty pathetic. Ranks right up there with people who post pictures of their meals. People, no one but you cares about this shit. Your dog and your brunch don't have a loving grandmother or cousins who want to keep up with them (why photos of kids aren't pathetic, even though most fb friends probably don't care about those, either).

I have a married but childless friend who's in her 40s and posts so many photos of her dog, it's clear it's some weird need to be loved publicly or something. And then she loves to post about how her dog is just like a baby. LOL sure thing crazy insecure lady!

You are awful, and totally lacking in human decency and compassion.

Yep, and smug! Don't forget that I am smug.

I'm married with a kid and I can assure you that your smugness is only masked envy.

Feel the same way about wedding and baby shower stuff. Fertility/infertility info is really boring.

Good thing, because it sounds lame as hell.

OP, you probably feel very lucky to be married. The only smug married people that I know are homely and feel like they hit the jackpot because someone chose them. BTW, I'm married w/kids.

Look at it this way:

1. They have/want different things than you. How would you feel if they felt all smug about your life choices? I mean, it is easy to say that YOUR choices are the right choices and justify your smugness, but they're not the only valid, fulfilling choices, believe it or not.

OR

2. They want what you have but haven't been able to find it yet, which makes your smug assholery even worse.

This. I'm not crazy about people who post tons of pics of their dogs, but not because I think their lives lack the "deeper meaning" of marriage and kids.

Um, sorry but no one can guarantee that you won't wake up tomorrow a single mom of your kids after your spouse dies (it can even happen to the healthy, young ones).

Don't mean to be morbid but no one is really in a position to be smug. Enjoy what you have today and don't assume you are better than anyone or even luckier.

Haha, I'm loving the two pics posted on this thread. My thoughts exactly.

I love the dog pics!!!!

Hate cat pics, because I hate cats.

And hate pics of the stupid dog that thinks it's a cat.
