| Son is at South Carolina. It's been fabulous. He came home watching what comes out of his mouth, saying ma'am, and holding doors open for ladies. No confederate flags seen on campus. There is one at the statehouse 3 miles away. He has made a diverse group of friends. It's all good. |
| OP is retarded. |
+1. Displaying his own bigotry. |
+1. Graduated from Emory in 2009 and the school seemed to have more people from the northeast corridor then from the south. |
|
OP's title sounds exactly like many of the contentious racial threads on Off Topic and whose sole purpose is to provoke discord.
|
And Georgia Tech is more statistically Asian than Hong Kong on a Saturday. |
|
OP here..I'm not racebaiting at all. I have just never been out of the airport in Atlanta, and freely admit I generally am ignorant about anywhere between Orlando and Richmond.
The Wahington and Lee/ Christopher Newport threads just got me stressed, as that is even further south |
Also, there are big chunks of the USA I've never seen , though I have visited at least 20 other countris
|
| There's a possibility you might see one, however it really isn't displayed as a message of racism. I know that's difficult for northerners to understand. |
Why do you assume that "heritage not hate" is bullshit? |
Not a message of racism? Are African Americans living in the South in agreement with this? Not trying to be oppositional, I'm really trying to understand. |
| Don't even worry about this until your DC has narrowed down whether they want a technical or liberal arts university. |
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt OP. My husband was the same way before we married and now has a better appreciation of the south. Some parts are much more cosmopolitan than you might think. I've spent some time around Emory. Last year, when I went to ATL last for business I went to a hipster bar and restaurant that could have easily been in DC. In my mind ATL is very low on the barometer of places steeped in that old south racist mindset. FWIW I'm AA and don't consider ATL to be a place I should worry about. |

The plantation life festival and annual black-face minstrel show are proud traditions at these schools.
NOT. Don't be so provincial,. This isn't your granddaddy's, or even your father's, South, |
A friend of mine at Virginia Tech had one hanging in her dorm room. She also had a black boyfriend. What's even odder is that she was from Maryland and was always making a big to-do about how she was "from the south" which I thought was hilarious. I have no idea what her boyfriend thought of her flag. |
