My husband was the same way before we married and now has a better appreciation of the south. Some parts are much more cosmopolitan than you might think. I've spent some time around Emory. Last year, when I went to ATL last for business I went to a hipster bar and restaurant that could have easily been in DC. In my mind ATL is very low on the barometer of places steeped in that old south racist mindset. FWIW I'm AA and don't consider ATL to be a place I should worry about.[/quote]
