I'm not even remotely worried as Whites will have economic, political and
Social power for a long, long time, just as we have in the past. Obviously, we have to learn Spanish because there are so many illegals who refuse to learn English. English will still be the language of choice for business and politics. Flame away. |

OP here. In our younger child's age group, whites are already less that 50 percent of the population. This is from the Census Bureau and "white" includes Hispanics and Middle-Easterners. In job hiring and contracting, the federal government has a whole set of racial preferences. Being a minority and having preferences against you doesn't sound like a good thing.
Why the hostility towards my question? I don't think I've said suggested anything other than ways to get along. I disagree with those who say not to worry. I've already known people who have been denied careers due to the color of their skin. I know one police force that completely stopped hiring white officers so that they could bulk up on minorities. They even talked about purging or early retirement. Why should I not worry about this? History has shown that life as a minority can be unkind. |

OP, I totally understand where you are coming from. I am white, but my children are mixed. If I had white children I would have the same issues/worries that you have.
Some posters have given a different perspectives but the one's that say you are ridiculous have their heads in the sand. These concerns are real and valid. |

Honestly, I can understand your concern. I am a minority, but not the kind of minority that receives any type of preference (an indian american... we honestly receive no type of preference!).
In general, the future is frightening. In Jim Crow days, the whites thought that the blacks would out number them. Now, the whites are afraid of the hispanics. I know many people that are afraid of China, proclaiming that their children MUST know Chinese in order to be successful in a future where China owns us. The only thing you can do is teach your kids what you can and wait and see. My kids are mixed race, but I will teach them to excel at school and to hone in on what they are good at. If race becomes an issue, then it becomes an issue, but if they excel at what they do, they will be an assett in the future. We cannot have a doomsday attitude about the future. Teaching your children that they will one day be at a disadvantage because of their skin tone is not a message that you want to send. Further, the idea that the whites need to band together in order to prevent other races from getting ahead of them is a tenet of the KKK and other white supremicist organizations. Yes... white may not be the majority in the future. But, asians have been a minority in this country for many many years, and we have been okay. It'll be okay if white is not the majority... I'm under the impression that everyone will be mixed race eventually, so everyone will have a little white in them anyway, so it'll be a nonissue. |
