Sorority hazing

Fraternity rush/pledging is the opposite. For whatever reason the boys are much more amenable to being hazed.

Now there are other non-panhellenic orgs that might haze but I can't speak to those. There are also drinking clubs and other orgs that pick from Panhellenic sororities that might haze as well.

lol, definitely not true especially where sorority rush is highly competitive. No one wants to the tatttle tail that everyone hates.

I am speaking from experience where rush is competitive. And rush is not the same as pledgeship.

I don’t know what to tell you because they are still hazing at the schools my dd’s friends attend. And my sorority hazed as well. Kids who report nearly always drop and are not initiated.

Yes, it is well known. Google will take you to reddit.

sickening ...

why would anyone encourage their DD or DS to go to a college where greek life is a signifcant aspect of social life. look at what these groups will do to your kid and then your kid will in turn do to others as as senior member.

My kid is at one of these schools. The rumors about hazing exist, but only about 3 specific sororities. It is 100% NOT tolerated in most of them.

At UVA in 2004 I literally stumbled into a group of pledges of a "top" (rich, very southern) sorority being hazed. They were being made to lie on the ground in a parking lot off the corner and the older girls were pouring condiments on them (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise) and yelling at them to roll around. Everyone seemed quite drunk but only the sisters were laughing...I actually reported it to UJC (I was an RA and felt some modicum of responsibility) and was called in to give a statement but as far as I know, nothing every came of it.

You keep saying this but it’s such a naive statement. No one wants to be the pledge that gets the sorority on probation or worse. Sorority hazing does remain mild compared to what the frats do.

There's gonna be bad apples no matter the group to which you belong. Pretty sure that the srats are under a pretty decent microscope at most universities, whether by their school's admin or their national orgs.

I have heard the "blow or blow," but that was floating around two decades ago, so not sure if its just urban legend at this point?

The whole mean comment circle and make a fool of yourself as a recruitment class definitely happen. Shoot these things often happen with high school varsity sports teams, too, for both boys and girls teams. Unfortunate all around.

Don’t know if it’s considered hazing but it’s very common for bigs to buy their little a dildo and bake her a cake for losing her virginity.

Are you confusing this with Dazed and Confused? I love Parker Posey.

My friend's daughter was home from college on spring break recently and she said that in her sorority, the hazing involves getting yelled at and being made fun of. It's more a mental thing instead of physical. Although it sounds mild, there's something very off-putting and nasty about that. My daughter definitely wants to rush when she's in college next year, but she doesn't have the tolerance or the patience to deal with that ridiculousness. She'd probably talk back and either get kicked out or just withdraw from the whole thing.

I don't keep saying anything. This is my first post and my kid is pledging right now. They would tell me if there was hazing. In fact, their whole friends group talked about it a lot before rush. People talk......a lot.
