The primary reason kids join is to have more alcohol fueled social events to attend, plus some nice pics for their social media. Of course there will also be recreational drugs at some sororities. And I don’t say because I’m a hater, I was in a sorority.

You were probably in a sorority 30 years ago. Don’t assume you know what it’s like now. I was not in a sorority when I was in college but my freshman daughter is having a very good experience so far - nice girls, no hazing, fun traditions, lots of mixers to meet other kids (not just frats; they have mixers with student organizations, too). But she isn’t in an SEC school, so I can’t speak to that experience.

I am currently an advisor for my sorority and have a college junior girl. You all are living in LaLa land, they aren’t doing jigsaw puzzles at those mixers, they are drinking.

Who is denying the drinking?

Exactly. Choosing to drink is not the same as being subject to hazing!

Um just in case some of y'all aren't understanding, "nearly everyone takes the dildo option" means, "nearly everyone chooses to perform fellatio on dildo."

It is funny because the girls are pretending to give boys head. But they are doing it with a toy instead of a boy. OK?

Like I don't love any of this, but there's a world difference between sucking on a silicone toy as a make-believe performance of a sex act and being penetrated by a toy.

Anyway have fun with your sorority fight lol

Still pretty sick and warped

I was in a sorority in the late 1980s and my dd just graduated also in a sorority. No hazing at all for either of us. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, but I don’t think it’s prevalent.

That's a myth. There is evidence that weathering actual difficulties together can forge healthy bonds in a group. Not much for acting out pointless rituals for the sake of reinforcing arbitrary status.

So boot camp is just a waste of time, then?

This is a laughable comparison. The difficulties of bootcamp are real, neither mild nor arbitrary. Professionals prepare recruits to become soldiers. No one in their right mind would think that sororities do anything similar.

You think getting in a recruit’s face and yelling “Only steers and queers come from Texas” is somehow more professional than what goes on during pledgeship?

I mean, you're welcome to your opinion, but this is low stakes for me, personally. I'm certainly way more ok with a bunch of college girls laughing hysterically while they go town on a plastic peen than with them peer-pressuring each other to do lines or with them body shaming each other (wtf) or just like... unkindness.

It's ok to laugh about blow jobs, queen! They're pretty funny.

+1

And no, they don’t tell their mothers this part.

There are plenty of girls who do share details good and bad. While there is probably some chapter somewhere who is doing stuff like this, it isn't happening most girls and you should hope that your kid would be smart enough to not participate. It's as realistic as the sleepovers where everyone has a pillow fight and feathers fly all around. Fake.

There are a few delusional mothers here who keep posting. It’s both funny and sad.
