sorority hazing

Anonymous
Saw article on Indiana University sorority suspended after telling pledges they had to either "blow or blow" (sex act or cocaine) before telling pledges was a prank. Is that a really rare & crazy example of sorority pledge hazing or is that common? Most curious if anyone has heard of anything similar happening at sororities at William & Mary or UVA?

There was a sorority suspended for hazing at W&M in 2019:

They all do it , schools turn a blind eye to most of it because of the money involved.

Schools are businesses, nothing more. a relative was killed in a hazing incident, they go through the motions to make people think they are taking care of it but they don't.

If they actually had to do it, that'd be hazing. Since it was a prank seems like no big deal to me.

This is the chance you take when joining a fraternity or sorority. It's one of the reasons I went to a college without a Greek system. They have to do something to really set themselves apart, otherwise they would be just like any other club, but without anything to bond them together. Partying is the bond.

I went to a big southern Greek school and never saw any hazing or heard of any sororities doing such. I saw it in frats though.

No big deal. Students die of hazing, how is that "no big deal"

Hazing is wrong period. There is zero reasons to torture people with this garbage to "make firends"

Then you are blind or unconscious, because they all do it.

100% agree

Some people are seriously desperate with the need to be in the "in crowd". Yikes. How can anyone have any self respect and go through that kind of hazing.

That's your come back? That I'm blind? 4 years in a sorority and I never once saw hazing. I had tons of friends in other sororities too.

Are you not understanding? It was a PRANK. They didn't actually have to do it.

We had major hazing at Virginia Tech. Included “kidnapping”, blindfolding, drinking and drinking and drinking… it’s unbelievable to think about what was going on.

Me as well. It was forbidden to haze. Now things that were considered "hazing" back in the day (early 80s) and today are different. For example, pledges dressed up and walked with our homecoming float in costumes. Today, we have "new members" and no one can require you to do anything that stands out.

There was certainly never anything dangerous I was asked to do, or asked anyone to do, during my 4 years on campus.

You know that you can go to a school with a Greek system and just have sense enough not to participate, right?
