UVA McIntire vs UGA Terry

UVA is more prestigious

I believe it was last 30%. It totally feels like a 5th year of high school.
Below are last year's stats.
For example, only 84% of kids with a perfect GPA for the entire freshman year got it (and a 4.0 is really not easy to do).

NP. This is eye-opening and a bit depressing. My DC is accepted direct admit to Kelley, UF, & Wisconsin. Now I am wondering if DC should choose one of those schools over UVA. Was leaning towards UVA because of in state tuition and DC assumed they would get into McIntire. Why doesn’t UVA they expand the business school to meet the demand? It is the most popular major these days.

Not for football.

Basically, your kid has a 5th year of all the high school bullshit for UVA.

UGA no surprise has a strong network in Atlanta and the southeast. Not so much on Wall Street and the northeast…though if you network like crazy (and yes…consider a fraternity), not out of the realm.

Not true. There are 26,000 students at UVA. My UVA kid says he never saw his high school friends.

OP, UVA is ranked no 4 for undergrad business. UGA is ranked way down at 29 out of 133. Go to UVA.

You missed the point entirely. It's "like 5th year of high school" because you have to keep a perfect GPA, a loaded extracurricular list, etc for an outside chance at getting into the business school. The kids hit UVA and have to grind harder than ever as a first year for a chance. We're not talking about anything social.

Every year after high school is going to be 5th year. Fighting for internships, research, clubs, project teams, it’s endless. Then fight for jobs or grad school, law, med. Don’t forget you will be fighting survival against AI. Get used to it.

No, not to the degree that if you get a single A minus over the course of 2 semesters that your chance of getting into your desired major drops from 87% to 62%.

Grade inflation issue. Plus generally large first and second year classes are graded on a curve. So only 15 to 20% will get As. It’s good that schools are only accepting limited amount. You don’t want the school to be flooded with mediocre students who can’t be placed for good jobs. If schools accepted more kids then parents will be complaining that kids can’t get jobs. Endless

Their actually isn't a lot of grade inflation relative to other schools. Average GPA is 3.6%.
The large freshman classes are not graded to 15-20% As. It's more like 10% As. I believe micro was curved to 9% As in the fall.

Which I agree with you makes sense- UVA doesn't want to have to place one million grads into finance. But the point is that one shouldn't expect to get into McIntire unless your kid was a true stand-out in high school. Because a large percentage of the stand-out, high school grinders are aiming for McIntire in 2025 and that will be the competition for that sliver of As.

Do you have a cite for any of this?

Just do a Google search. It will govern you the AI summary from the UVA website and a link. Same for UGA.

Says UVA has a 50-60% internal acceptance rate while UGA is 90%.

I’ll pass on an AI summary but would appreciate links from the actual websites. The higher odds of getting in would seem like a good thing if it’s true.

Actually AI SAYS….

Undergraduate Acceptance Rates
UVA McIntire School of Commerce: The internal acceptance rate for current UVA students is approximately 51%. Because the school is highly ranked (#4 nationally), it is extremely selective, with admitted students averaging a 3.78 cumulative GPA.

UGA Terry College of Business: The acceptance rate for the fall 2024 incoming class was 43%. Admission is based heavily on a "pre-business" GPA and standardized testing (ACT/SAT or the Terry ETS Major Field Test)

McIntire was 43% last year (2025) when they changed application to after first year (from after second year).

They should just do direct admit.

test required or must submit test scores. plus AP scores in micro, macro, and calc ab (or bc) if classes were offered.

It’s hard to take UVA seriously if they remain TO. UGA at least does this right.
