Grade inflation issue. Plus generally large first and second year classes are graded on a curve. So only 15 to 20% will get As.  It’s good that schools are only accepting limited amount. You don’t want the school to be flooded with mediocre students who can’t be placed for good jobs. If schools accepted more kids then parents will be complaining that kids can’t get jobs. Their actually isn't a lot of grade inflation relative to other schools. Average GPA is 3.6%. 
The large freshman classes are not graded to 15-20% As.  It's more like 10% As.  I believe micro was curved to 9% As in the fall.

Which I agree with you makes sense- UVA doesn't want to have to place one million grads into finance.  But the point is that one shouldn't expect to get into McIntire unless your kid was a true stand-out in high school.  Because a large percentage of the stand-out, high school grinders are aiming for McIntire in 2025 and that will be the competition for that sliver of As. [/quote]
