Both of my sons had a period of rapid growth/a big growth spurt and then- once they began to noticeably slow down- gradually gained maybe another 2 inches or so. I’d tend to think if he has grown a ton in the past year, that might continue. If he has grown only minimally in the past year (an inch or two) he is winding down.
But growth patterns vary. |
| 6'0 at 14 😮 |
| My DS was 6'0" at 14, and is now 6'5" at 16. He's hoping he's not growing further. |
Given this probably close to done…but your tall grandfather is an X factor. |
|
My son is now 6’1” at 16. At 15 he was 5’11.5”
We do think growth is slowing down though but we aren’t sure if he’s done. |
The tall grandfather got the kid past his short parents to 6'0. That kid might eke out another inch. |

Just another confirmation DCUM is VERY weird with the height obsession.
Ask your ped not random height obsessed people on a random forum |
| Does he have armpit hair? Facial hair? A changing voice? Adam’s apple? Where he is in puberty can give some indication as to how much more growing he will do. |

So much variation!
My son started tall and stayed tall, grew steady until 15. He was 6' at 14, almost 6'2" at 15. At 16, the doctor thought he was probably done because he didn't grow at all from 15-16, and was already tall. But then, 16-17 he grew 1.5"! He's approaching 18 and I think he may have grown another half inch since last check. My siblings and I all grew some in college, but my kids were taller younger, so I don't think he will keep growing much longer. My daughter stopped growing between 13-14. |
OP here. Armpit hairs he's. Changing voice yes. But no facial hair yet. |
| DS1 was 6'2 at 13. He's 6'3 now at 14. I'm not sure, but I hope he's done growing. |

My son was 5’10 on 14th birthday. Now 6’4”, at 15.5. He’s hoping it stops soon.
His shoes are size 13 and he really wants the feet to stop. Shoe choice/access drops off a cliff after size 13. Does anyone know if it is typical for feet to stop growing before the rest of the person? |
Sounds like an early developer, he is probably about done, especially considering parent heights. I have noticed a lot of boys going through puberty much earlier than what used to be the norm. My son was a later developer, but many of his friends grew earlier and were done by 14ish, at least in height. |
Agree. Height and age at which growth stops is all over the place for boys. My Dad, brother, nephews (all over 6 feet) continued to grow until age 21 - 22. My DSs (6’3” and 6’5”) reached full height by age 14. Their Dad (5’8”) was the same. |
If he has no facial hair there's no way he's about done with puberty or his growth spurt. A quick google search most boys stop growing between the ages of 16 and 18. I think it's likely he grows at least a few more inches. |
