There aren’t any Asians or Indians in the DC private schools? There must be a lot of blondes from Northern Europe.

No they just happen to be tall Asians (yes India is part of Asia). Tallest girl my daughter has competed against at high level soccer is of Indian descent.

NP here. My 15 year old Korean son is 6'2"! I see a decent number of tall Asians around.

His voice hasn’t cracked yet, so I think he has another growth spurt left. My 17-year-old daughter is barely 5’6” and has always been tall—she was 5’4” at 12. My 12 year old daughter is 5’2”, and my 10 year old daughter is taller than my 17 year old was at that age. I’m 5’4/5’5” and my husband is 5’9”, so I’m not sure why my sons are shorter.

It sounds like you and your husband are about average, and your kids are all within (roughly) one standard deviation of average.

My DH is 6'6". He thinks he was 6'0" or 6'1" when he was 14, but he can't remember with 100% accuracy.

DH's brother was 6'8" as an adult, but he wasn't even 6'0" until after he was 16. He grew 8" between age 16 and age 21.

DH's sisters are 6'0", 6'1", and 6'2". They were all that height by the time they began high school.

NONE of the "kids" in DH's family played basketball, volleyball, water polo, or any other sport in which being tall is an asset. In fact, none of them were very athletic at all. 🙂 DH said he andhis brother got very, very tired of everyone trying to push basketball on them. DH now hates everything about basketball, probably because it was pushed so hard when he was a kid and teen.

5’9 is really tall for 14, he will probably be over 6 feet! Depending on puberty of course, but you said his voice hasn’t changed which means the big growth spurt hasn’t happened yet. My 14 (just turned) is a little over 5’5 and only in early puberty, still looks like a young kid. He is projected to be 6’1.

Regardless, your kids all sound to be in the average range like you and your husband.

I think sometimes this just happens, and they can get whatever combination of genes from you/spouse or either side of the family.

Our DD is 5’8”, and DS2 is 6’1” at age 15 (might grow a little more, not sure). Our DS1 is 5’8” and is definitely done growing. Same parents (we are 6’0” and 5’7”) We just ended up with 2 tall kids and one who is less tall.

That makes sense. Out of 2,000 kids you’re going to have a small amount of kids with that height. I’m sure there are kids that tall who don’t play sports also.

Here we go with the anecdotes. Most Asians and Indians are short based on genetics. Just like most have dark hair and dark eyes. There will be some outliers and being in the US eventually everyone will just blend.
