UMich is out

No need to waste time and stress on an institution that doesn't in fact do a real EA process (having heard last year and this year from fellow student and parents). Was on the fence with this kid as had heard of the very high deferral EA later to be admitted, and wish my DD hadn't wanted her time on this. Oh well, lesson learned.

+1

EA seems to be of no use for most colleges. Just do that one ED and RD everywhere else. Saves the kids lots of tension with all the deferrals. Most of the kids getting deferred have high stats and most likely have submitted a great application (essays etc.) even for EA

May I ask if your child is a URM? Am not assuming, jus helpful to have a sense if the experience at my kids' school is more uniform.

Accepted with 4.0 UW, 11 APs, high 1400s SAT, good ECs (commitment, variety, national ranking in one)

What I think helped with a very good why us essay (most intense process of all of them) and probably the teacher recs.

(not URM, by the way)

Only if you are comfortable sharing, is he/she a URM?

I think EA still matters. I think you get a fresher read and some schools will reject if you are not a fit.

Plus being early communicates prioritization and interest.

Looking for a job and interviewing is way more soul sucking than college apps. College apps are practice for being a white collar employment candidate.

DC, VA, or MD? I have not heard of anyone in DC accepted as of yet. Sounds like all are postponed. They do not use the term deferred btw.

DC said his friend was "postponed" - I guess meaning moved to RD. Not really deferred - they haven't touched the application yet.

I agree that's not cool to offer EA and then not even look at the app - feels like breaking a contract. If a kid goes through the trouble of applying early, colleges should be obligated to review.

deferred COE, 4.0 UW with 11 AP, 3 DE math classes, 1510 SAT. Solid ECs and good essays.

Nice try
UMich stopped using affirmative action, like the Cal schools, in their admissions processes years ago. DEI is not just about race but everyone seems to want to make it seem that way or that DEI = no merit. And affirmative action benefitted white women the most.

They claim they did. But there're reasons to believe they didn't.
