UMich is out

I’m suspicious when people “know” how many kids were accepted this soon. My DC got in and told friends, but doesn’t announce each acceptance on social media.

That said, this entire process is a YMMV situation.

DC #1 had 1480 SAT, 11 APs, 3.9 GPA UW in FCPS HS and average ECs and was accepted by Michigan in RD but rejected by UVA.

Three years later, DC #2 had 1500 SAT, 12 APs, 3.9 GPA UW in same FCPS HS and average ECs and was accepted by UVA in EA but rejected by Michigan (deferred, then WL).

Glad we're done with this.

In-state Michigan here. My HS underclass student went to a senior friend's birthday party this afternoon, and we now know that at least nine seniors from his high school got accepted EA at UMich yesterday. And we also know where else senior friend has been admitted. It's exciting news for a lot of people and word travels fast, even without social media.

Of course you can chose to believe or not.

In-state Michigan here. My HS underclass student went to a senior friend's birthday party this afternoon, and we now know that at least nine seniors from his high school got accepted EA at UMich yesterday. That's different. The person claiming to know was referencing a school in Northern VA. A lot more Michigan kids get into UMichigan than kids from VA. Most posters assume others are from the DC area and respond accordingly.

And unless there is an "ethnicity and religion by state" breakdown on Michigan's website, you don't have a clue on the ethnic or religious breakdown of OOS students.

I'll conceed that it's not a stretch to list the 2 most overrepresented blocks attending top colleges.

High stats son (4.0 UW, 1580 SAT, 63 college credits with Associate's, STEM magnet, ranked 1st in class) with good ECs (state champion athlete, musician who has played professionally) deferred from engineering. Disappointing as it's deferral 2/2.

I love the part about the Ivies "refusing" to take them. They have way more admits than spots. 8f course tons of all kinds will be rejected, but if certain groups encourage more apps, then they will also have more rejections.
