UMich is out

I agree that's not cool to offer EA and then not even look at the app - feels like breaking a contract. If a kid goes through the trouble of applying early, colleges should be obligated to review.

Do you really think they did not even the read them?

Has anyone heard of anyone in the DMV getting flat out rejected? IF not then maybe you are correct and that is a real disappointment if they truly did not even read it yet.

Is postponed the same as deferred?

Accepted to LSA, from DMV. Very high stats.

My DS said a classmate was rejected so some people do get rejected.

postponed = deferred. It doesn't mean that they didn't have time to look at your application. They admit primarily in-state applicants in EA. Their goal is 50/50 in state/OOS and they have many many more OOS applicants.

I know one acceptance LSA--greater DMV. Legacy. Only one of a friend group of 40. I know legacy doesn't officially matter but it seems to.

UMich stopped using affirmative action, like the Cal schools, in their admissions processes years ago. DEI is not just about race but everyone seems to want to make it seem that way or that DEI = no merit. And affirmative action benefitted white women the most.

They claim they did. But there're reasons to believe they didn't.

Doubtful. Their diversity numbers dropped and has stayed lower since affirmative action was banned. What reasons do you have other than sour grapes?

Anonymous wrote:Deferred. Well in excess of their GPA and testing norms. Quite strong extracurriculars. Whatever happens longer term will advise my younger kids and classmates not to EA to Michigan. No need to waste time and stress on an institution that doesn't in fact do a real EA process (having heard last year and this year from fellow student and parents). Was on the fence with this kid as had heard of the very high deferral EA later to be admitted, and wish my DD hadn't wanted her time on this. Oh well, lesson learned.

Not really a waste of time if your DC actually wants to attend, it only means they did the application earlier than they otherwise might have. If they only want EA to have a backup option in hand then UM may see through that.

My DD was "postponed". OOS candidate, fairly competitive to an unpopular program. this is the second deferral from a reach. Hate that we have to wait...

And if anyone claiming they are not following AA ban, they should step foot on campus. Less diverse than even the Ivies in a very visible manner.

One confirmed acceptance at our school is a legacy, but she's super qualified as well!

Someone is really leaning into the URM narrative

DC best friend in (she is African American). 1550 SAT and stellar ECs. Haters are going to hate.

You guys know that different schools/programs/majors within the university have different applicant pools and different requirements and expectations, right? So before everyone runs to Dear Leader to bring the hammer down on the University for flouting the Supreme Court AA decision, maybe consider that an applicant admitted with credentials perceived to be inferior to those of some that were not admitted is not and apples to apples comparison and a flagrant attempt at social engineering. That's the problem with you parents that think every door should just fall open for a 1500+ SAT. There are lots of those out there, especially applying to CS, Ross, etc., and many of them want to eat at Zingermann's.

URM with a 1530, straight As at a Big3 private (a few A minuses). Top extracurriculars, etc. Deferred.
