Grandparents don’t want to buy car seats for kid visiting

They bought a stroller, a crib, crib mattress, baby monitor, high chair. So yes, they meant items like these.

Seriously! They were probably thinking certain brands of cereal, maybe a pack of diapers and wipes, OP. Not freaking car seats. You are way off base!

How old are your kids, and why weren't they in seats on the airplane?

Always buy seats for your kids on the plane and just bring your car seats. If for some reason you really won’t do that, then just check the car seats for free. Other options are to buy inexpensive seats for travel (we often used the Cosco brand as they do ok in safety tests) or to bring something like the wayb pico with you if kid is forward facing. We had that for our youngest and loved it for planes and Ubers.
Also re rental car seats, you’ll pay more than just buying inexpensive seats, and I know 2 friends who have actually seen lice on rental seats

Kids between 2 and 10 will not have car seats on the plane, but will in a car.

Sounds like they’ve spent plenty of money already and it’s on you to pony up for the seats, lady.

Again, some more. Go to Hertz and freaking RENT SOME CAR SEATS. Problem solved!

This thread is bananas. OP sounds crazy and the grandparents sound crazier. This is really not rocket science.

My parents were born before the Great Depression and even they always used car seats with the grandkids. I totally don’t get these old people that don’t believe in modern safety knventions. The next time they say something like that, point out that their parents lived without MRIs and knee replacement or glucose monitors or EKGs or statins so maybe they should give up all that stuff as welll (plus their iPhone and kindle).

I don’t know how old your parents are, but car seats were definitely used by us and everyone we knew when we were young parents. I’m surprised that parents would be this cavalier about the safety of their grandchildren.

I agree. My kids are older now but when they were young my mom purchased car seats and booster seats for her car. She even insisted on no jackets in car seats and properly positioned straps. She went the extra mile to research good ones and attended the car seat checks to have them installed. So this is not a grandparent thing at all but a personality issue. I would absolutely have refused to put my kids in any car without a seat and went to rent a car with a car seat. I would have been livid if I were you OP.

The OP is bananas
Bring the seats yourself, wtf
It’s like #1 parenting safety, right before slicing all grapes

Rent a car. Car seats are free.

One parent stays at the airport with the kids, and the other parent goes to Walmart and comes back. This is a parent responsibility.

I’m smarter than you: go to the rental car places at the airport and rent car seats.

You are less smart; the rental carseats are trash.

We absolutely did have our kid in a carseat on the plane until 4.
