Grandparents don’t want to buy car seats for kid visiting

Anonymous
They think it’s a waste of money as it’s a small town and it’s safe to drive around everywhere. I would be happy to pay for it myself, had they not sprung this on us when we landed at the airport after they’d asked us what we needed for the trip before, and we said car seats. Wtf

You didn't bring carseats? You flew somewhere without knowing there would be carseats on arrival?

One parent stays at the airport with the kids, and the other parent goes to Walmart and comes back. This is a parent responsibility.

I’m smarter than you: go to the rental car places at the airport and rent car seats.

You bring them or buy them and have them shipped to the grandparents.

They asked us for a list of things we needed. They bought everything but the car seats (probably because they were the most expensive and they deemed it not necessary. They kept telling us we never used car seats growing up. Lord)

I live right down the street from my parents. My kids ride in their car at least once a week. I’ve bought them 4 car seats at least… and they won’t use them. They whine and will try to use the booster seat for my 2 year old. We fight and they end up taking my car instead, which is annoying to say the least.

I seriously don’t get grandparents and car seat safety. It boggles my mind. My parents are highly educated too.

I am so grateful when states make it illegal for kids to not be in car seats. It cuts down on a lot of fights with grandparents.

I looked at the car seat in my son’s car, wrote down the name and model, looked it up online and ordered one so our grandchild can ride safely in our car.

I don’t know how old your parents are, but car seats were definitely used by us and everyone we knew when we were young parents. I’m surprised that parents would be this cavalier about the safety of their grandchildren.

When my parents ask if they can stock up for anything on a visit, we’re talking whole milk, Goldfish and applesauce, people. We’re not talking car seats.

I would have bought and shipped car seats to them. Point blank period. This is on you, OP.

I would never expect my parents to spend $300+ of their own money on carseats. I have always either brought them myself or had them shipped to my parents house.

When my parents ask what we need while visiting, they mean "what food and beverages do you need?" not "what expensive items that we will use twice a year only when you visit?" We brought carseats with us when our kids were really little and then later brought a booster seat and left it there because we knew we'd use it over the course of several years.

How old are your kids? The bubble bum was a savior once my kids were old enough.

I think some of you just have stupid parents. Most of us don't.

My parents and in-laws are in their late 70s/early 80s. They did not use car seats when we and our siblings were younger, but they always use car seats when they are transporting our children because we ask them to.

my in laws have a group of friends that all have grandkids visit one-two times a year and they share the car seats. Any chance your parents have friends w grandkids who visit and you can borrow?

(My own parents have a car seat in their car bc we see them all the time).

This is odd. Are you sure when they told you to make a list, they meant items like that? I would never expect them to buy those.

Seriously! They were probably thinking certain brands of cereal, maybe a pack of diapers and wipes, OP. Not freaking car seats. You are way off base!
