Seriously. You must have a lot of time on your hands and an inability to read conditions and disclaimers. OP is owed nothing |
I wouldn't request compensation. I would share how disappointed I was. It would be nice if they gave you a free upgrade or at least a breakfast! |
My DH is a pro at this too. His favorite phase is, “You need to make this right”. If they ask you what you would accept, tell them. My advice would be to shoot high, a free night would be perfect. Stay calm, no raised voices, why you love this hotel, you have recommended it to friends, blah, blah, blah. Let us know how it goes. |
Yeah, just be grateful you're on vacation and try and move on. |
If you hear a news report about a hotel guest accidentally killing the manager in the next few days.... |
YES!! |
What would I expect? Nothing, they gave you your money back. Let it go and move on. |
Unfortunately I bet it's in the small print of your reservation that they cannot/will not guarantee specific rooms. So unless you have it in writing that they guaranteed this specific room (you say you called, so unlikely), you won't have a case for small claims.
I think the $50 is not quite sufficient, but you aren't really entitled to anything. Hotels don't like unhappy guests though, so I agree with pp for asking for 1-2 night refund (depending on how long youre staying) or the resort fees, which are often $50+/day. They can only say no or negotiate, so you may as well try. |
How long are you staying? Find out if you can have the room once the current occupants check. Tonight, when you go to bed, count your blessings that this is the biggest thing weighing on you. |
I’d ask how it happened, and ask if they could upgrade to a higher grade suite at no charge or comp you a meal or extra night. Some hotels would do this, some won’t. |
*out |
Post a Yelp review that reveals the name & location of the hotel. |
I would speak with the hotel GM and express your disappointment but not in an impolite way. Yes, you got your money back for the premium but you had your heart set on that specific room. The GM might give you a free night or a dining credit but don't expect anything more. If the GM just shrugs and says you got your money back you can always right a detailed review on Yelp, Trip Advisor etc. Get the GM's name and include it in the review. Don't make it scathing, just the facts. |
"This is an outrage! How do you intend to placate me?" |
I always immediately dismiss reviews that call people out by name. So petty and unnecessary. |
