Why are people in MD so rude?

There is a difference,

No they are RUDE. I’ve been telling my husband this for years. Chevy Chase and Bethesda specifically.

Then stop coming here! It's that simple. Telling your "husband for years"? Jeesh.

People in MD (Bethesda) walk with their heads down or walk past you like you don’t exist. For the record, I live on the Maryland side and am new to the area and disappointed that people are so unfriendly.

We live in area near bethesda and love it. We have many community events and folks say hi when you walk or shop nearby.

I find the atmosphere in downtown Bethesda a bit too cold for me too. I still miss the Barnes & Noble and smaller independent stores that are mostly big chains now.

However the schools both public and private are excellent. Bethesda has very high education rates and values education. There are also art and other festivals each year where cars get blocked off and people relax more.

There are hiking and cycling clubs that go out together on nearby trails such as national crescent, C&O canal, rock creek etc.

Also many do the faith communities around Bethesda are very warm and welcoming and there is something for everyone from humanists to many different faith traditions.

Good luck finding your people OP

Half of Bethesda is on anti-depressants. The other half is undiagnosed.

I’m from around Baltimore and never felt like people from Maryland were any more or less rude. Probably less rude? Slightly more southern and warm? But not worse than other places. Not like NY or MA.

Several cities in Maryland are among the country's most diverse cities. Different cultural backgrounds, different languages, different way of relating to neighbors, strangers, etc. No feeling of community in many areas in Maryland. No feeling of pride in the community, state, or country.

I love going to Baltimore (except for the crime) because everyone is so friendly and nice! It's such a refreshing change from the DMV.

Right, no one has pride in Maryland at all ever. /s

Man we have the flag printed on everything. People love being Marylanders.

It's mostly the DC metro area. When we get about an hour out or so in nay direction (MD or VA) it gets better. Strangely, the people actually in DC are fairly friendly.

#2. reason = they are largely descendants from Germany (look it up, its 100% true)
#3. reason = they have undiagnosed intellectual and personality disorders (lots of them)
#4. reason = they spent too much time in MD and it's rubbed off on them from other rude people.

This is how some feel about Northern Virginia.

Obviously, you have never been to Paris!

Or New York.

An elderly woman with a walker and someone who was assisting her was walking down the aisle in one direction a young women on her phone was walking the other direction. Rather than pausing for a moment to allow each other to pass behind me, they both continued on their way and the young woman plowed right into me pushing me over. Didn’t stop, didn’t say a word and when I loudly said excuse me she had the nerve to yell at me and blame the old lady for taking up too much space.. The level of rage I feel about this is not rational.

+1

So. Much. Rage - in this general DMV area.

Again, this describes the entire DMV area.

We don't deal with outsiders very well
They say newcomers have a certain smell
You have trust issues, not to mention
They say they can smell your intentions

You'll never know the freak show sitting next to you
You'll have some weird people sitting next to you
You'll think "How did I get here, sitting next to you?"
But after all I've said, please don't forget

All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don't make any sudden moves
You don't know the half of the abuse
