Why are people in MD so rude?

Truth. I believe driver’s Ed isn’t required and it shows. They just have to pass a written test.

Not true. So you don’t even know MD well enough to credibly talk trash.

Thanks for the heads up OP. I’m from the deep south and considering a move to the DMV area. I can’t stand rude people so I’ll be crossing MD off my list, among other reasons as well.

What are the most friendly areas and neighborhoods in the area? I’ll be moving up as a single woman in my mid-40s (empty nester).

Alternative “facts” ….

MD requires drivers Ed and has strict graduated licensing for provisional drivers … strong penalties for aggressive driving and If you report aggressive drivers’ car details and location, the police will send officers to catch up with them and warn them.

It’s the gross over generalizations. They can really set us off sometimes.

Yes, please stick to backwoods VA where you will fit in. The passive aggressive fake southern "bless your heart" BS will fit in perfectly in Herndon, not so much in any of the sophisticated places in this area. Off to VA you go!

We're doing this again?

I live in Bethesda, and I've lived in many places in many countries. I am Parisian by birth. Paris is the city I like to call the rudest place on Earth

People learn not to be too polite in big crowded cities - it's a protective envelope you place on yourself when you go out of your apartment, to deal with the noise and jostling and people asking you for stuff.

But in wealthy suburbs or city districts specifically, I think it's not that people are ruder than elsewhere, it's that you are on alert for signs of exclusion, due to your own insecurity.

It's this. Bethesda is full of international people, ESPECIALLY the French. We have Rochambeau school and awkward scientists. Looking down when you walk isn't RUDE, but it is unfriendly. French people culturally hate small talk so they appear to be rude, they are actually nice people, just unfriendly.

Tell that to all the VA and DC drivers we see out here in the MD suburbs. They have no clue what they are doing.

Virginia drivers are absolutely the worst in the country- it's not even up for debate, they're constantly placing in the top 2 spots

The fact that they would even try to lie and claim Maryland drivers are so awful is pretty farcical considering the data.

A Maryland driver always thinks our virginia roads are a Nascar track. You see any trouble in our local malls with a getaway driver it's always someone with maryland plates.

Keep trying to come up with increasingly ridiculous explanations for your horrible driving rankings.

It's funny how they always try to deny that Maryland drivers are notorious in the DMV. I'm not sure if it's cynical deflection or actual cluelessness. Given the state of their driving, probably the latter.

As a single woman, in the entire DMV (depending on my budget) I would consider Bethesda, and I've lived there before!
In Virginia I would probably steer towards Ballston or something further in. Do you like cycling? There's a cohort of realllly annoying bikers in Bethesda that get off the trail and then hit the shops in their gear, including helmets and those clip on shoes. It's ridiculous. But you could join them!
