Why are people in MD so rude?

Anonymous
I live on the Maryland/NW DC border and notice a difference in attitude and behavior between the two areas. People in D.C. speak to each other and seem friendly. People in MD (Bethesda) walk with their heads down or walk past you like you don’t exist. For the record, I live on the Maryland side and am new to the area and disappointed that people are so unfriendly.

#1. reason = they are competitive with the world
#2. reason = they are largely descendants from Germany (look it up, its 100% true)
#3. reason = they have undiagnosed intellectual and personality disorders (lots of them)
#4. reason = they spent too much time in MD and it's rubbed off on them from other rude people.

Generalize much? Eye roll.

You clearly live in Maryland

Because Maryland is closer to New York, the home of the rudest people on earth.

We're doing this again?

I live in Bethesda, and I've lived in many places in many countries. I am Parisian by birth. Paris is the city I like to call the rudest place on Earth

People learn not to be too polite in big crowded cities - it's a protective envelope you place on yourself when you go out of your apartment, to deal with the noise and jostling and people asking you for stuff.

But in wealthy suburbs or city districts specifically, I think it's not that people are ruder than elsewhere, it's that you are on alert for signs of exclusion, due to your own insecurity.

I live on the VA side of DC....rude here too. I do think it's the area. There is a huge entitlement issue in this area. Add in the competitive streak and keeping up with the Joneses and you have the DMV.

People in Takoma Park/SS are very friendly, even if a bit weird at times

No lies detected.

Now that I've been in MD for 10 years, I rarely bother to be friendly anymore, as it didn't seem to work out.

They are not rude, they are keeping to them.

There is a difference,

I live in Bethesda and don't notice this. Maybe you would think I'm rude but I'm not. I'm very friendly with sales associates/restaurant workers. I don't randomly talk to strangers on the street as I walk by though. Who does???

Obviously, you have never been to Paris!

So rude. Yesterday I was in a store looking for a specific product on the shelf of a narrow isle. An elderly woman with a walker and someone who was assisting her was walking down the aisle in one direction a young women on her phone was walking the other direction. Rather than pausing for a moment to allow each other to pass behind me, they both continued on their way and the young woman plowed right into me pushing me over. Didn’t stop, didn’t say a word and when I loudly said excuse me she had the nerve to yell at me and blame the old lady for taking up too much space.. The level of rage I feel about this is not rational.
