The Shift in the Democratic Party

What happened to the party? This use to be the party of free speech, anti-war, about freedom of religion and about helping the poor and disaffected that were hurt by the pains of globalization.

I have seen over the past decade the party being completely co-opted by the military industrial complex, to the point where people are foaming at the mouth over wanting to fight in Ukraine. I have seen the party completely ditch the struggling blue collar worker to get into bed with large tech billionaires. I have seen it now completely on the side of censorship and the use of authoritarian tactics when it comes with dealing with oppositional speech.

The democratic party now reminds me of the neocons of the Bush era? Anyone else get this feeling?

I’m with you OP but not specifically for all of the reasons you mentioned. I grew up as economically progressive, socially conservative dem. I left the party about 20 years ago. I don’t vote now.

Same. Real uptick in bad trolling lately.

let me guess, everyone you disagree with is a Russian Spy

Let me guess. You never read a newspaper or serious journalism. You don’t have critical thinking skills and you definitely don’t understand the difference between a spy, an asset, a troll, and a bot; or what it means to sow division or apathy, or the difference between a difference of opinion and an agenda.

Neither party comes anywhere near my values. I prefer to remain honest to myself.

No thanks. I’m fine with not voting.

It’s weird that someone with such deep and abiding apathy is on a political forum. It suggests that you’re not quite representing yourself accurately.

It’s not apathy. I’m very interested in what’s going on. However like I said above neither the republicans or democrats come close to my values so I don’t vote. Tell you what though, just to make you happy, I will vote in the next election for either a third party candidate or do a write in. Thanks for the encouragement!

I’m always pleased with what people are happy to do out of spite.

Enjoy shooting yourself in the foot. When you don’t vote or vote for a third party, you’re still making a choice about which of the two parties will win. It’s adolescent fantasy to think otherwise.

You are literally describing Republicans, aside from Ukraine (I think if it were Russia or middle east, they'd be foaming to fight).

But yah, sure. You're a democrat. (Wink, wink).

Start with being honest with the positions of the party. Because you have not come anywhere CLOSE to describing the positions of the democratic party in your OP. So start with shutting down the cable news channels and Twitter, and educating yourself. Because your post shows you're not really educated about the issues, or the parties' positions, at all. Not even a little.

IOW, "cuts off nose to spite face." Congratulations? The fact that you seem ok with that doesn't come off quite as you think it does.
